Tasmania is My Garden 2019 Held annually, the Blooming Tasmania Flower & Garden State Event is a Tasmania-wide celebration of the beauty of this state’s gardens and wilderness areas. This year, from 21 September to 6 October there are events for everyone from the keen garden enthusiast to the committed nature lover with activities for every member of the family. Around the state visit our many open gardens, follow the Blooming Tasmania Bird Trail, Wildflower Trail, Sculpture Trail, or take part in workshops or view exhibitions that showcase the beauty of Tasmania’s living environment. The flagship event is the Blooming Tasmania Flower & Garden Festival 2019 that runs over the weekend of 21 and 22 September. It is held annually in Launceston’s magnificent heritage Albert Hall and adjacent historic City Park. Blooming Tasmania Flower & Garden Festival 2019 The Cocktail Party Everyone is welcome to attend the launch of the Blooming Tasmania Flower & Garden Festival for 2019 and state-wide event. The Tasmanian Basket Makers – The Conservatory Saturday and Sunday: 10am–4pm Drop in to meet members of this state-wide group of creative souls who love to create baskets and fibre-related wonders using natural and man-made materials and are keen to share their knowledge of this craft. Inside Albert Hall Stage installation in Albert Hall: A Natural Landscaped Garden Proudly presented by the Australian Plants Society Tasmania Inc. (www.apstas.org.au) the stage installation for the 2019 Festival is a visual depiction of the diverse Tasmanian environment through a natural garden landscape. Starting on the left at sea level the planting takes you on a journey from coastal flora through grasslands, dry forests and wet forests to the beautiful and unique alpine plants that crown the Tasmania’s mountains. If you want advice on beginning the gardening journey, indoor plants, natural management of pests and diseases from fungal gnats to garden ‘brats’, or have specific questions on any topic, our garden experts can help! Roy rediscovered Hibbertia rufa, which had not been seen in Tasmania for 120 years and was considered extinct in this state. 2pm–2.45pm ‘Success with Heirloom Seeds’ Join Jac Semmler from The Diggers Club, who will discuss the wonder and diversity of heirloom seeds and how to get success when sowing seeds. Heirloom varieties are a gardener’s inheritance passed down from generation to generation. These plants inspire with their flavour and novelty. North West Raptors at the Tasmanian Arboretum An exhibition featuring Tasmanian raptors and showcasing the works of four local bird photographers: Bert Quandt, Peter Tonelli, Mehrdad Abbasian and Jill Colgrave.
