Sedgefield Presbyterian Church Responding gratefully through service in our community, worshipping our Creator and working to alleviate hunger in our neighborhood. Greetings! Fall is officially in the air and our family menu for Thanksgiving Dinner is being planned. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays- probably because it is the one day I don’t fell guilty about eating anything and everything. It also is a time of reflection of the blessings that have been graciously bestowed. I am most grateful that this November marks my second year anniversary at Sedgefield Presbyterian Church. Time has flown by and you all have become family- the kind of family you want around your Thanksgiving table. I am truly blessed to be here with you all in this time and space. The world seems overwhelming—with natural disasters (too “I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener.” ~John 15:1 many hurricanes), human suffering and des- pair, and targeted brutality because of race, religion and sexuality. Just a couple of days ago our country felt another shock of hatred as a faith community was gathered in their own house of faith, celebrating life when hate entered in—and eleven precious lives are gone. These days I am truly grateful and blessed to walk this faith journey and calling with each of you. We are a community (standing on the shoulders of the Saints before us) that desires to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly, now. On Commitment Sunday we turned to the scripture from Isaiah chapter 6, when Isaiah is in his own time and space and trying to make sense of all that was going on around November him. He has a vision of the Divine and hears these words, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Isaiah then offers two sentences, “Here am I! Send me!” I am grateful to be among Christ’s followers. I am grateful we feed people physically and spiritually. I am grateful for your leadership in the community. I am grateful for your mighty acts of love. I am grateful for your ferocious fellowship and devotion to one another. I am grateful for a “Stepping Up In Faith”-like Spirit. I am grateful that we are preparing ourselves to see how God will use us in the coming year, "Here am I! Send me!". Blessings of peace to you all from the luckiest Pastor around, Kim

Thank you to those who made the dream a reality! Along with our new facility came an influx of new, excited volunteers. Our Cooking Matters support staff for this course consisted of Norma Matto, James Patterson, Bob Halpin, Holly Dickinson, Karen Lloyd, Raigen Stiefel, Mary Brooke Guernier, Sharon Turcot, Tricia Hayes, Ahmani Pegues, Jessica Mitchell, Katie Williams, Jordan Arnold, Harriet Patterson, and Kim Priddy. Thank you all for sharing your time and many talents! We couldn’t do it without you! Another thank you goes to all of you who have supported our program through donations of items on our wish list and through monetary donations. Your support is greatly appreciated and put to good use! Congratulations to our newest Cooking Matters graduates! Six families successfully completed the requirements of our six week course and went home with a certificate and a graduation bag filled with cooking equipment. Their accomplish- ments were celebrated in grand fashion at our Oct. 30 class with lots of fun party food, games, and prizes. Thank you from the SPC Cooking Matters Team: Ana Atwater, Holly Dickinson, Gin Reid Hall, Bob Halpiin, Norma Matto, Jessica Mitchell, Kim Priddy, and Sharon Turcot. Last Thursday, Charlotte Stone, Ellen Chelava, and I attended the Honor Card Luncheon at Christ United Methodist Church for the unveiling of the Holiday Honor Card featuring the artwork of William Mangum. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the fundraiser that benefits Greensboro Urban Ministry. Over $300,000 was raised for this very worthy cause in 2017. For a minimum donation of $5, buyers this holiday season will receive a card with the theme of Almost Home. Funds raised in support of the Honor Card help with food and shelter for those in our community who desperately need it. I was overwhelmed by the images of the people who have benefited from this cause, and inspired by those who volunteer their time and talents in an ef- fort to help out our neighbors in need. The 2018 Honor Cards will be available for sale soon in the gathering area of the church. Please consider purchasing one (or many) to help raise money for Greensboro Urban Ministry this year!
