HILTON BAPTIST CHURCH MAY BANNER Dear Friends and Family of Hilton Baptist Church, Those of you who are musically gifted know the concept of an “unresolved chord” and can probably explain it better than I can. The basic idea behind an unresolved chord is that it leaves the listener “hanging” or in tension waiting for the chord to end. In my mind it is similar to someone saying “I must tell you something important! You are …….” and then they say nothing. All the while you, the listener, are asking “What?! What?! What were you going to say?!” An unresolved chord, leaves the listener waiting for the music to resolve or come to a conclusion. As some of you know, I like to dabble with poetry. I wrote a poem several months ago that feels a bit like an unresolved chord. I never completed it because I believed there was more that could be said. I wrote this while walking outside, attempting to be more intentionally aware of my surroundings. I suppose I was practicing the concept of “Be still and Be present”. I never gave this poem a title but if I had to, I suppose I’d call it “I see you”. Chickadee I see you there in the tree. You remind me of Spring, with your chick-a-melody. Water bug I see you struggling up stream. You remind me of someone… Yes, you remind me of me. Logs I see you gathered in a pile. Mind if I join you and sit here awhile? Wind, don’t try to hide I see you too. The swaying tree tops tattle on you I see you too little stream trickling. I love to listen to the sound of your singing. And that’s where I stopped and the poem feels unresolved doesn’t it? I now wonder if it is meant to be unresolved. There is always more for us to notice, always more for us to see if we will simply be still and be present. As the weather warms up, I invite you to do just that -Be Still and Be Present. And who knows, maybe we can all keep working on this poem together. Grace and Peace, Dan VOLUME 80, ISSUE 5, PAGE 1

Outreach News... ABOUT OUR GIVING TABLE With the stress of COVID-19, our need to practice social distancing and the uncertainty of when we may return to “normal”, The Giving Table has been discontinued until further notice. Note: Please consider giving a little extra to the church or an organization of your choice. There are many struggling to meet the needs of the community at this time. And, remember, prayers are welcomed for all our doctors (including those taking care of our four legged family), nurses, police, firefighters, pharmacists, store clerks, gas station attendants, bank employees, blood donors, and, as you can see, the list goes on and on… God is beside us, before us, below us, above us, behind us … Talk to him and lift our community in prayer … HILTON FOOD SHELF This information is from the Hilton Food Shelf Face Book Page - Clients must call ahead to schedule an appointment and are not allowed to enter the building. (Note: They will only be open for limited hours on Wednesdays.) If you have donations for the Food Shelf, call them at 234-2090 to make an appointment to drop them off at the Community Center. There may still be a drop off box at Tops. Based on some of the other information on the Face Book Page, the Food Shelf can no longer accept used plastic bags and still does not accept outdated items. The “Hilton Food Shelf” Face Book page has a list of most needed items. ANNUAL CROP WALK The Annual CROP Walk has been cancelled for 2020. If you would like to make a direct donation to the Hilton Food Shelf in lieu of supporting one of our usual walkers, you may send your donations to Hilton Parma Emergency Food Shelf, PO BOX 127, Hilton, NY 14468. Thank you for any and all of your support. CWS BLANKET OFFERING We usually conduct the Church World Service’s (CWS) Blanket Offering in May (Mother’s Day) but, due to COVID-19, we’ve decided to wait and collect this offering in August. For those who are able, we will also be collecting blankets at that time to take to Open Door Mission. Please hang on to any donations for Open Door Mission until then. VOLUME 80, ISSUE 5, PAGE 5
Pastoral Relations Committee News... In these trying times in our world today, caregivers must have their needs met first as they are constantly caring for the needs of others. Very true in our fast-paced world, but this also pertains to our Pastor and in our HBC world also. Pastors need special care as they continually minister to others 24/7. Long hours, relentless problem solving and life in their 'fishbowl' adds to compound their stress and quite often, putting their own family at list's bottom. In January of this year we highlighted our many Departments and Committees within our church. But, and probably one of the most important not spoken about, is the Pastoral Relations Commitee (herein after called PRC) that helps and aids and supports to improve the day to day communication life of our Pastor, between clergy and congregation. The PRC encourages the Pastor, creates a better and successful pathway for a successful ministry. The PRC's role is to aid the church in achieving this mission. Our HBC PRC is made up of five committed individuals who provide opportunities of problem solving, resolving those issues before they grow unrestrained and championing constructive relationships between our Pastor, the Committee and the congregation. This takes pressure off the Pastor and allows God to work in the lives of the concerned. Everything within this Committee is always held with genuine concern for our church family and with complete confidentiality. We meet at least once each quarter with the understanding that other meetings may be added during the year. And again, our PRC meetings are in complete confidentiality. Our Committee at this time, due to some unforeseen circumstances, is in need of two and possibly three new members. Remember, it's a five year commitment and if you are interested, please contact our Personnel Committee or one of us on PRC. And/or, if you have any questions, you certainly may contact any one of our members. It's a great way to further understand the effectiveness of your church's congregational ministry as the Pastor cannot do it alone. "Be responsible to your Pastoral leader.....Contribute to the joy of their leadership not it's drudgery. Why would you want to make things harder for them?"
