Make Caring Visible and Valued
Carers Week is brought to life by individuals, groups and organisations coming together from
around the UK. This year, people across the country are continuing to face new challenges as a
result of the coronavirus pandemic. Many people and current carers are taking on more caring
responsibilities for their relatives and friends who are disabled, ill or older and need support. And
now, more than ever, it’s important that we highlight the challenges that the 6.5 million people
providing unpaid care are facing across our nations.
So let’s raise our voices and let everyone know that carers deserve to be recognised for the vital
contribution they make – and that we are there for each other during Carers Week and beyond.
Wired annually support Carers Week by holding activities and events—due to covid, this year our
events are virtual and online.

Please see our week long Program of Events—we look forward to you joining any or all of our
sessions whether for information and advice, relaxation, music, crafting—or our Quiz Friday.

BRITISH RED CROSS LONELINESS WEEK - 14th June
One in five people in the UK always or often feel lonely*.
Do you know anyone who is feeling lonely? Loneliness is common, especially at the moment due
to the pandemic, but there is a real stigma attached to talking about it. For the upcoming
loneliness week, we are encouraging people to talk about loneliness. There are many ways that
adult learners can get involved:

Loneliness hub - Read our online resources and watch videos.
Loneliness workshops - Share your experiences and learn from others in our zoom and
telephone workshops.
Tea, learn & connect - An opportunity to have a light-hearted chat with others and learn
something new.

The experience of looking after a relative,
friend or neighbour can be very isolating. It
can sometimes be difficult for carers to share
their concerns with other people.
Often the focus of attention is on the person
being cared for and carers can feel guilty about
having and expressing some of their feelings.
Sometimes these feelings can seem over-
whelming and may lead to ill health and a
sense of hopelessness.

Q. Do I have to ‘bare my soul’ and talk about
my childhood?
A. The focus is on your immediate difficulties.
Sometimes this leads us to talk about the past
but not always. We generally talk about current
concerns. The counselling that we offer is fairly

you can be referred to other services if you

Q. Do I have to attend six sessions?
A. No. Some people find that a few sessions
