Saint John Paul II Area Faith Community Bulletin Pastor: Rev. Matthew Wiering Twelfth Sunday Parochial Vicar: Rev. John Hayes in Ordinary Time Senior Associate: Rev. Aaron Johanneck Father’s Day June 20, 2021 Church of the Holy Family Church of the Holy Trinity Church of St. Pius X 700 Main Street West 110 Winsted Avenue West, PO Box 9 1014 Knight Avenue North Silver Lake, MN 55381 Winsted, MN 55395 Glencoe, MN 55336 320 • 327 • 2356 320 • 485 • 2182 320 • 864 • 5162 www.holyfamilysilverlake.org www.winstedholytrinity.org www.stpiusxglencoe.org Welcome Deacon Joshua! It is a great honor, delight, and privilege for me to get to serve the Saint John Paul II Area Faith Community this summer. I will be here throughout June, July, and a good portion of August. I was raised in Minneota Minnesota on a farm outside of town, and am the youngest of five siblings. My family’s farm raises pigs farrow to finish, and we grow our own corn, beans, and oats. My brother and I also raised and showed our own herd of goats in 4-H, and I raised and showed horses as well. I love working on the farm, but I also enjoy sports and many other hobbies. I entered seminary directly out of high school, and have been studying for the priesthood for seven years now. God has been very good to me throughout my whole time in seminary, and the people of God have been absolutely wonderful to me and the other seminarians of this diocese. For this reason, as well as many others, I am very excited to finally get to give back to you by serving your community this summer as a deacon. Diaconate is the last step for me before being ordained to the priesthood next year hopefully. As a deacon my job is to assist and serve the priests of your parish, which I can do by assisting at Mass, and giving homilies. I can perform wedding services for couples that do not want to have a Mass during their wedding. I can visit the sick and bring them Communion, and I can perform baptisms. You may see me doing any of these things at the parish this summer. However, you may also see me at baptismal preparation classes, Totus Tuus, and just about any other event that may happen in the parish. One of the things that I desire to learn more about this summer is what all goes into serving and running a parish. To that end, I am also going to be following around the priests that are assigned to this area to try to learn everything that goes into that. God willing priesthood is only a year away, and I want to be as prepared as I can be to serve. Thank you for the opportunity to spend the summer with your parish. Please pray for me, and know that I’ll be praying for you. Also please feel free to say hello whenever you see me. I love getting to know people. God bless. In Christ, Deacon Joshua Bot

We need volunteers for Winstock 2021, which will be held on August 20 & 21. If you are available to work a 4-1/2 hour shift, please contact one of the individuals listed below. You do NOT need to purchase a ticket to volunteer. Those volunteers not purchasing a ticket are asked to come no earlier than a ½ hour before the start of your shift. If you purchase a ticket and work a shift, you will receive a voucher for $25.00 at the end of your shift. There are also certain shifts that are eligible for a $50.00 tuition voucher based on area and a need to fill basis. We will be having a volunteer meeting on Wednesday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. on the Winstock grounds. At this meeting, you will be able to purchase a limited amount of Winstock tickets for the early bird price of $135.00. The volunteer parking area will be secured, so it is very important all volunteers are on the worker list. We sincerely thank all the many volunteers of the past; your help is very much appreciated. Without every volunteer, Winstock would not be a success!
