Saturday 18th September 2021 On-the-day event details About the event Thank you for signing up for the 2nd Bath Marches. The event will attract Marchers from across the country on 9- and 15-mile routes. The event supports 3 service charities and welcomes many others. We are grateful to all those organisations which have supported and entered as teams or individuals. Covid-19. We continue to monitor Covid –19 guidelines and will be encouraging social distancing and hand sanitising around the route. However, beyond these limitations we hope you have a fantastic day. Location and Parking: The Recreation Ground, William Street, Bath, BA2 4DS. The event will start at the Bath Recreation Ground, William Street entrance. A one-way system is in place for arriving Marchers. Parking There is no parking at the venue. We recommend using the Park and Ride facilities at Newbridge (West Bath) or Lansdown (North Bath) or Odd Down (South West Bath). All details are available at: https://travelwest.info/park-ride/bath There is a pay and display car park on Charlotte Street that can be used. https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/charlotte-street-car-park-bath (all day £15….ouch!) Sadly, we have no cycle parking at the Rec but there are cycle racks opposite Waitrose in the centre of the city. Address is the Podium, Northgate Street, Bath, NE Somerset, BA1 5AL There is also on road parking on the edges of the city. (FREE). Timings: 9 am: Marchers Depart on 15-mile route 10 am: Marchers depart on 9-mile route 12 noon: Marchers will start to return to collect their medal 4.00pm: Close and depart. Start On arrival at the Rec, please “check in” at the check in desk. Once you are ready to set off, you’ll be given a short safety brief and then at the first available window off you go. Please say hello to your charity contact who may be at the start to see you off. Groups will set off at short intervals to avoid “congealing” on the canal path! Our finish will be at the Recreation Ground where this year a pay for bar, soft drinks and snacks will await all. 6 Princes Street Bath BA1 1HL
Photographs A photographer will be on the routes but we encourage you to take your own photos on the day and share with the organisers who will create an “On the Day” album. Please tag #BathMarches on instagram, facebook and twitter. Prize: 2 free places in next year’s Bath Marches will be awarded for the best photograph posted or submitted on the day. Marcher Maps & Emergency Details Marchers are asked to carry the following telephone number with them: Event Control, First Aid, and other support – 0752 8055110 Navigation We recommend the following ways to navigate the route 1. The routes are published on the Bath Marches (www.bathmarches.co.uk) website so you can screen grab a copy and print off OR you can access the Bath Marches website whilst walking (via your phone or smart device) and follow 2. The route will be marked with arrows and Bath Marches “Boots” markers. These are an aid and should re-assure you that you are on course. 3. An OS map jpeg will accompany this email as well as GPX files. We encourage you to download the “What three words” app. This will give Event Control your exact location if you call in. See https://what3words.com/ Registration and Check-In On-line registration via the website will remain open until 10pm on Friday 17th September. You may be asked to show evidence of your registration as proof of entry on arrival. GPX Files GPX files are attached to this email for Garmin type devices. Marcher Safety and Etiquette Please remember that The Bath Marches are designed to be fun. Marchers should ensure they walk, crossroads and ascend and descend steep slopes in a safe manner. If you fail to return to the finish, please can you let Event Control know. Hand hygiene Hand sanitiser will be available at the start, finish, and each of the appropriate checkpoints. Checkpoints and Toilets 15 mile route 9 mile route Kelston Round Hill Lansdown (Hare and Hounds crossing) Woolley Church - Food Stop Woolley Church - Food Stop Solsbury Hill Solsbury Hill There are toilet facilities at Swainswick Church 20-minute walk after the Woolley Church food stop. 9-mile Marchers may also wish to break their walk at the Hare and Hounds pub (9 miler). Please be sensitive to the residents and other footpath users if you are caught short along the way. Route Signage The Route will be marked with Boot Markers (see image) to reassure you that you are on the route.….and large white arrows on red background at key locations. However, we would emphasise that Marchers should bring sufficient supplies with them for their walk and if you need specific food types, hydration or energy products then please carry these with you. Cut off times The 15 mile march is challenging, and we ask all Marchers to consider the distance and pace that they will need to cover the course and therefore their planned start time. Marcher Support We will have support vehicles out on the course and will be able to recover you at some stage, however first aid and Marcher safety remains our priority on the day so self-recovery may be quicker. Countryside code and litter (a little reminder). Please take your litter home. We will be conducting a litter sweep as requested by the landowners. Respect ● Respect other people ● Consider the local community and other people enjoying the outdoors ● Park carefully so access to gateways and driveways is clear ● Leave gates and property as you find them ● Follow paths but give way to others where it’s narrow Protect ● Protect the natural environment ● Leave no trace of your visit, take all your litter home ● Do not have BBQs or fires ● Keep dogs under effective control and on leads where requested including Kelston Round Hill ● Dog poo - bag it and bin it Enjoy ● Plan, check what facilities are open, be prepared ● Follow advice and local signs and obey social distancing measures Recovery Vehicle The support team will endeavour to pick up any Marchers who cannot complete their March as quickly as possible. 6 Princes Street Bath BA1 1HL
By signing our terms and conditions and entering the March, all walkers must have: Personal identification with medical Money/bank card information) Water bottle (full) x2 if hot weather Emergency contact details (Name and Snacks and energy products phone) Sun cream ….we hope Mobile phone Waterproof jacket Medals All Marchers will receive a finisher’s medal or bar to their 2020 medal. First aid Cover There will be first aid trained staff at the event start and finish at the feed stops and on our support vehicles that will be out along the route. They can offer assistance for minor/non- emergency issues. For serious incidents and some back injuries, please note we are unable to transport any casualties and the emergency services will be called. Marchers should always use their common sense and contact the emergency services where necessary. Please do inform the organisers (using the event control number shown on the rider information sheet) of any major incident. Emergencies and communication Details of what to do in case of an emergency will be covered in the brief at the March start. Please be aware that areas on the routes may be out of mobile phone signal. Marchers are asked to look out for each other and report any accidents to Event Control, the support vehicles, or the event team at the feed station. Please download the What Three Words App to your phone in case of any support requirement from yourselves or the emergency services allowing everyone to quickly pinpoint the location of an incident. Adults accompanying children The event is designed to appeal to youngsters but please ensure they carry the Event Control number with them, are properly equipped …..and at least one in their team can navigate! 6 Princes Street Bath BA1 1HL
Check point Challenges At Kelston Round Hill, Lansdown and Solsbury Hill there will be a light-hearted non physical team challenge for all to take part in. Your checkpoint controller will explain the details. A trophy and prizes will be awarded to the most successful group. Good luck! Insurance Iconic Walking Events carries public liability insurance policy, limited to £10,000,000 for legal liabilities arising from claims made against an event organiser, official or participant that involves either bodily injury or property damage to a third party.
