Term 3 26th August 2020 Learning for the future Ahuwhenua – Manaakitia – Manamotuhake – Manawanui - Hiranga Kia ora, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Malo ni, Bula, Nameste, Greetings… Thank you for all your support with Level 2 life at school. As you are aware you can scan in at the gate with the NZ Covid Tracer app on entry or use our school app called ‘Skool Loop.’ If you do not have our app, you can find it by typing into the Google search engine “Skool loop app’ and it will come up. It is free and straightforward from that point as you select Kamo School. We are able to use this app to share notices, absences, check in, calendar, permissions, contact details and newsletters. Thank you for supporting the school with no parents at Cross Country. We appreciate it is an event where we would normally have a wonderful line up of whanau support. Road Patrol We now have our Road Patrol crossing monitors working from 8.15am to 8.40am. Please note that if your child is crossing outside of that time, it is highly likely it will not be monitored, and we recommend you cross your child/ren over yourselves. The Three Mile Bush Road crossing in the mornings has the concern of sun strike as you look down towards the lights, truck and trailer units coming down with speed and those in a hurry, let alone late for work drivers. So please caution your child with the need for safe crossing practices at pedestrian crossings. Contact with the teacher Thank you to the parents/whanau that have responded to teacher requests to see them regarding students learning and wellbeing. Please, if you were not able to do so in the last few weeks and now feel you would like to, do not hesitate to contact the school. Always remember we want to hear from you anytime about your child/ren. School Grounds Our wonderful caretaker Mr Gow has planted a lovely lavender garden to beautify our school and it looks great. Our grounds are kept clean and clear to try not to tempt any vandals. The weekend before last we suffered some unnecessary damage around the school, which is very disappointing for our students. If you are around on the weekend and see any people disrespecting our property we would love to know any details. Water Bottles We want to remind you that students’ having their own water bottles is important, especially in today’s health climate. To quote known research from Healthy Kids, “Our bodies are made of about 70 per cent water – it’s what makes up the majority of our blood, digestive juices and sweat, and it’s found in our organs and muscle cells. Water is used to metabolise fuel, regulate body temperature and digest food. Water enables our bodies to carry out all of its functions in the day, it continually moves about and is lost in urine, sweat, tears, blood and the air we breathe. Children, in particular, need to make sure they re-hydrate, as water is the primary way they regulate their body temperature. The amount of water a child needs is influenced by the amount of activity they do, the weather temperature, and their diet and health. It’s always important to remind children to drink, but as a general guide, children up to 8 years of age should have a minimum of 4-5 cups of water a day. Children above 8 years old require at least 6-8 cups of water a day.” Change of Details Please, if you have a change in any details from phone numbers, to addresses, to second contacts on your child’s profile, we need to know.
Fruit in Lunch Boxes It is so great to see the number of students who enjoy fruit break or vegetable break. As I move around the school I see carrots, cucumber, celery, tomatoes when in season all being enjoyed. Thank you for supporting the school with this healthy snack break, it really does add fuel to get through to morning tea time.
