Manu Kōrero is a Māori speech competition that encourages fluency in Te Reo Māori. I was incredibly impressed by the tamariki’s bravery as they stepped up and impressed us with their kōrero. Five-year-olds to eleven- year-olds, those new to our kura and those new to our bi-lingual programme shared their manu kōrero, with everyone giving it their best. Tau kē ngā tamariki! Thank you to Matua Mikaere and Te Arani Huia for the unenviable task of being judges. I also want to acknowledge our kaiako and whānau for their support of our young tamariki. Looking Ahead to 2021 As a school, we are beginning our planning for the 2021 school year. I am working with the Leadership Team to gain an accurate picture of what class compositions look like for 2021. If you have children turning five next year who will be joining our school but you have not yet officially enrolled, we would appreciate you completing an online enrolment via our website www.stalbans.school.nz Equally, we appreciate that from time to time whānau move away, or parents make different choices about their child’s education, so if you know that your child(ren) will not be returning to us in 2021, we would appreciate the advanced notice via email to office@stalbans.school.nz I know it seems early, but this information significantly impacts staffing, class compositions and organisation of the wider school. A Few Reminders • Get your summer uniform items and school hat or cap ready for next term. If we get weather like we’ve had this week, safety in the sun will be a real priority. • Our swimming pool will reopen for the summer season after Show Weekend. We will let you know how to enter the ballot for a pool key next term. • Don’t forget - school finishes for the term at 3pm on Friday 25th September. Term 4 starts Monday 12th October. And Finally… As this is the last newsletter for the term; I think it is timely for a bit of gratitude, and some thank you’s! Term 3 has been another tricky one as we have worked to navigate our Level 2 restrictions. This has meant a lot of re-organised and cancelled events that have been beyond our control. Thank you all for your ongoing support of the school and our staff as we have worked through these. It’s never easy to let our children down by Whiria te tangata. Weave the people together.
cancelling events that they have worked hard towards and are looking forward to, but it is made easier knowing we have a school whānau who are supporting us. Finally, a huge thank you to the staff and students at our school for the flexibility, resilience, hard work and determination that they are throwing at 2020! It’s certainly a ‘character building’ year to date, but hopefully, the return to Alert Level 1 this week will give us a little return to normality over the holidays. Have a wonderful two weeks together, stay safe, and let’s work together to remain at Alert Level 1. Ngā mihi, Ginnie and the team Message from the Board of Trustees • Thank you to the entire school community for your support over another term of Alert Level changes. Thanks to the combined efforts of our school staff, whānau and tamariki, the small changes to routine have been seamless. • We are pleased to say that a new cooling system will be going into the school hall over the break, just in time for the warmer weather. This will make this a much more pleasant space over the summer months for the classes who are currently in there, and in future for any school assemblies and events in the hall. • Enjoy your term break and please make the most of our school site and the fantastic new playground - it is ours to enjoy! If you do see any suspicious activity on the school grounds, please immediately call our security company, Code 9 on 03 374 3424. Thank you for your help in keeping our school site safe and free of vandalism. Out of School Experiences & Achievements Eva from K21 competed in the Cheerbrandz Spring Carnival this past weekend.
