No. 102 July A note from the Headteacher It seems incredible that the term is already drawing to a close and we are breaking up for the summer. As you can see from the contents of the newsletter, we have had a fun and busy term once again. We have said goodbye to our Year 11 students and welcomed the new Year 7 students for a few days. I look forward to working with all of you and your children again in the next academic year and wish you a great summer holiday. As always we are very proud of the students at Friars Academy and would like to remind you of a few of our expectations to ensure that everything is in place for September : full school uniform should be worn at all times including black shoes, hairshould be of a natural colour and not extreme in style, students are only allowed one plain stud earring in each ear (which must be removed for PE lessons) and a watch. No other jewellery may be worn. Mrs Ijewsky. July saw our final Pride of Friars Tea for this school year. Four pupils and their parents were invited into school to have a cup of tea and enjoy seeing some work that their young people were proud of. Congratulations to La-Tonnia, Jack P, Amiee and Jesse. Students were picked because they have been working exceptionally hard in different aspects of school life and demonstrating the school values. Did you know that in the past six months, almost two-thirds of children groomed online were targeted on just three platforms: Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram. Please keep your child safe online by talking to them about the issues involved with social networking sites.
Our final Theme Week of this year was entitled 'The Best of British' and was a celebration of everything that represents our nation! There were many activities spread out across the week, splitting the classes up with students from every year group in each team! The week finished off with a 'Friars Festival of Britain', opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wellingborough and showed off the work from the week which ranged from Historical baking, Shakespeare's Best bits, the best of British Films, a street party, work/film about Charlie Chaplin and many more. The week was very successful and really encapsulates the spirit of Friars Academy.
