THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF WEXFORD Saint Alphonsus & Saint Alexis Most Holy Body and June 14, 2020 Blood of Christ
From Father Zywan The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ! This weekend marks the annual celebration of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - “Corpus Christi.” It’s a time for us to reflect on what the gift of the Lord Jesus in the Eucharist personally means to us. The Eucharist is more than a gift, it’s a person – Jesus. At the Last Supper, Jesus gave us this gift of himself. Taking the common staples of bread and wine, Jesus said “take this, eat and drink, this is my body, and this is my blood and asked us to do this in memory of me” – himself. The celebration of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ encourage us to appreciate just how blessed we are to be loved by the Lord, to enter more deeply into the intimacy he wants to share with us, and to know how Jesus remains with and in His Church through the Eucharist. Hidden under the common forms of bread and wine, Jesus feeds us his very body and blood that we might be more than physically nourished; he desires to be united as one with us in a deep, life-changing spiritual bond. As members of the Wexford Catholic Community moving ever more closely to forming one parish on July 1 – Saint Aidan, from two soon to be former parishes – Saint Alphonsus and Saint Alexis, today’s celebration challenges us to recognize and live the unity we share in Jesus. In fact, the Eucharistic Presence of Jesus compels us to work together to foster a unity that will witness to the world our love of Jesus through our love for one another. We can do this! In so many ways, we have been doing this, and we are to continue to wholeheartedly move in this direction. This is what living the Gospel calls us to do. Today and every day, cherish the gift of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. This is something that many have appreciated so much more in this time of pandemic with our churches being closed, our inability to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, and praying as a community. It is in our worship that we form a community - a communion in the Lord. Friends, this is our time. Saint Augustine reminds us of the role each of us plays in ushering in the kingdom by commending us to “become O holy people that what you are … the Body of Christ.” Our world, beginning with our one, new parish, is depending on our response. WITH, IN, and THROUGH Jesus, we can all make a real difference. And this is because we are all members of one body - the Body of Christ! Job Well Done! Congratulations to all our graduates from colleges, universities, high school and elementary school programs! What a great time to celebrate your accomplishments while giving God thanks for His gifts. May you move into your future with confidence for the Lord goes before you and it's there that your lives are to bear abundant fruit. Stay close to the Lord who will always show you the way. Finally, may you grow into the joy of discipleship by recognizing that true fulfillment comes from using your gifts at the service of others. God's blessings and congrats! A Graduation Prayer Heavenly Father Surround those who are graduating with your grace. Bless them with hope so that they move into the future with eager and open hearts. Help them to put knowledge, skills, and insights gained through their education to use for the good of all humankind. Inspire them to believe in the goodness of life even when faced with challenges and difficulties. As they commence with their lives, may they grow ever more grateful and wise. All of this we ask in the name of Jesus, your beloved Son. Amen. In Jesus’ love, Fr. Zywan

Blessed Francis Seelos Academy Seelos Academy Receives $100,000 Grant Blessed Francis Seelos Academy was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education Job Training Grant Program. State Representative Mike Turzai, who serves as the Speaker of the House, helped secure the grant to help Blessed Francis Seelos Academy enhance its science and math curriculum. "Because of Speaker Turzai and his dedication to education, we will be able to invest in our STEM offerings and upgrade technology in our classrooms. We are planning to upgrade our SMART Boards in our classrooms, purchase additional student devices, and introduce robotics and coding programs that will enhance our science, mathematics, and technology curriculum. Our school will benefit from these programs from preschool through 8th grade," said Robert Reese, the school's principal. Mike Turzai has been an advocate of school choice and fair funding for private schools, One of Turzai’s top priorities in Harrisburg has been expanding a pair of tax-credit programs that incentivize donations to private schools. The EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) Program and the OSTC (Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit) Program give tax breaks to businesses and individuals if they donate money for private-school scholarships. The idea, backers say, is to give students from poor- and middle-class backgrounds a better shot at attending private schools. "I was fortunate to work directly with Speaker Turzai over the past few weeks to submit the grant and have it approved. We are blessed to have the support of Speaker Turzai not only for this grant, but also for his continued work on the EITC program that helps to fund financial aid opportunities for families who want to choose a quality Catholic Education," said Reese. Sign Up for Flocknotes Well, we have a lot of amazing things going on here at the Catholic Community of Wexford. We have a tremendous community here. And we want to make sure it’s as easy as possible for every one of you to be involved and connected to it all. So, we’ve adopted a new way of communicating that will make it much simpler for you to get the information you want from us! It’s powered by a service called Flocknote. Like sending a "note" to your "flock". This is all totally free for you to use, you don’t even have to download anything or create a password in order to participate. You just take a couple minutes to sign up and it lets you receive email or text messages from the groups and ministries that you choose. It even allows you to reply directly back to those messages so we can get feedback and hear from you in an efficient manner. Your info is kept totally private and, again, it lets you choose precisely which groups and ministries you want to get email and text messages from here at the Catholic Community of Wexford. In addition to regular group and ministry communication, we’ll also use this to send you important updates about special events coming up, inclement weather announcements, etc. And it’s important for you to know that you can update your communication preferences or unsubscribe from any of these updates at any time! Text the word “Wexford” to 84576 Once you send that in, Flocknote will text you back a confirmation message AND another message with a link you’ll need to click to complete the process. We hope you will find this method easy to use and find this as another effective means of communication. Thank you!
