OLF Summer Reading Suggestions 2021
For summer reading suggestions, Our Lady of Fatima Library joins forces
with The State Library of Louisiana to promote their Louisiana Young
Readers’ Choice (LYRC) program to our students. The purpose of the
program is to foster a love of reading in the children of Louisiana by
motivating them to participate in the recognition of outstanding books. Now
entering its +20th year, the program continues to encourage Louisiana’s
youth to read for pleasure (...and what better time to read for pleasure, than
summer?).

The official kick off date for the program is in August, but students entering grades 3-8 can get a head
start by selecting books from the attached appropriate grade level list to read over the summer. This
is NOT a requirement; simply a suggested starting point to help students enjoy reading over the
summer. Once school starts, we will continue to promote the optional program to our students until
the voting date in March. Students will be allowed to vote for their favorite once 3 or more books from
the appropriate list have been read.

Summer reading is not mandatory at OLF. There are no
requirements, but we do offer optional AR testing dates for
students to earn AR points towards the AR Point Clubs for the
upcoming school year. Any AR book they read and test on this
summer will count towards their overall point totals for AR Point
Clubs. AR points earned over the summer will NOT count
towards 1st quarter goals. All students coming to test will
receive a surprise treat each visit!

                                                      Summer AR Testing Dates
Wednesdays 9:00-12:00 in the OLF Library
                                                               June 23
                                                               July 21
                                                              August 4

Parents and/or siblings are required to escort their child into school and wait outside in the hall during
testing. Chairs will be available. Please have quiz numbers for the books your child plans to test on
available when you come over the summer. Go to www.arbookfind.com to locate AR books, grade
levels, points, and quiz numbers.

Have a wonderful summer and happy reading!!
