eNEWS Week 7 - Thursday 3rd June 2021 NEWS NEWS NEWSHIGHLIGHTS HIGHLIGHTS TO INFORM TO INFORM OUR SCHOOL OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY COMMUNITY Dear parents, carers and community members, Today we hosted Dental Screening for students in Pre-Primary, Year Three and Year Six. Dental Screening occurs regularly throughout a child’s schooling to identify issues before symptoms present, prompting preventive and therapeutic oral health care. Tomorrow is a School Development Day and the children do not attend school. The staff will be travelling to Belridge Secondary College to join other schools in the area for a conference on supporting more able students in the classroom. This weekend is also a long weekend and the school will be closed on Monday. This week we hosted the first of our Twilight Tours for prospective kindergarten families. These tours provide an opportunity for working families to visit the school and meet with staff. I would like to acknowledge Mrs Grace, who has led the organisation of the Kindy Tours. A further Twilight Tour will be hosted on Wednesday 16th June. I would also like to acknowledge Ms Falco for her leadership of the recent RAC incursion that concluded last Monday. It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to develop key life skills around road safety. Well done to Mrs Kelly, who was recently invited to speak to a group of schools involved in the Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy. This invitation followed her meeting with the Department of Education and Curtin University staff who have acknowledged the outstanding work she has undertaking in progressing this program at our school. Thank you also to Mr Hafid and Mrs Steiner for organising the French Café for the students of TA32 and their families. It was a wonderful experience and I understand there are more to come! All parents and guardians with children at Currambine Primary School are eligible to nominate for the School Board. A nomination form is attached to this newsletter. Nominations close on Monday 14th June. The School Board is responsible for setting the long term future of our school and maintaining oversight of the implementation of the School Business Plan. Our School Board has five parent representatives, three staff representatives, two community representatives and the Principal. The Board meet on Wednesday evenings in Week Eight of each term and also in Week Four of Term Four, totalling five meetings per year. I urge you to consider whether you would like to nominate for the School Board. Over the coming weeks you will hear from some of our Board Members, who will give an insight into what the School Board does. “I have had the privilege of serving on the Currambine Primary School Board for the last two years and have found the experience to be tremendously rewarding. My wife Ingrid and I have two children (Yulia and Gustav) in the school. We live in, and love, the community in and around Currambine. At CPS we are fortunate to have an experienced and pragmatic Principal in Geoff and high quality teachers and administrators who offer our kids a rich and diverse education. I regard being on the Board as an important role as our school is the foundation of our community. In the time I have been part of the Board I have been involved in or connected to decisions such as the approval of a new school uniform and the reduction of school fees to aid those in need during Covid-19. I have further been able to work towards improving communication and extending collaboration between parents and teaching professionals.” ~ Mark Strumpher, Board Member

5 To g e t h e r Towa r d s To m o r r ow WIN a two night stay at Quality Resort Sorrento Beach! Thank you to all families that have already paid their Voluntary Contributions. All families who pay their 2021 Voluntary Contributions ($50 per child) by Sunday 8th August, will go into the draw to win a two night stay in a one-bedroom spa suite with ocean view, at Quality Resort Sorrento Beach! Prize is valued at $598 and valid until 30/04/2022. The draw will take place by Friday 13th August 2021 and the winner will be notified. Thank you for helping to make Currambine Primary School the best possible learning environment for your children. Q: How can I pay my Voluntary Contributions? A: The contribution was included in the Booklists and many parents/caregivers opted to pay directly to Campion Education, who have passed the payment onto the school. If you have already paid your Voluntary Contributions, we thank you for contributing to the quality of our teaching and learning programs at Currambine Primary School. If you have not yet paid but would still like to contribute, there are several options available. 1) You can contact the school office between 8am and 4pm either in person or by phoning 6207 6100. Payments can be made via Cash or EFTPOS. 2) You can make a Direct Deposit. Account name: Currambine Primary School - ANZ Joondalup BSB 016-338: Account number 3409 06693 Please enter your child’s name as the reference and reason for payment. Q: What are Voluntary Contributions? A: The school receives funding each year based on actual student numbers from the Department of Education. This goes to providing most of the material and resources necessary for students to access educational programs. Your Voluntary Contributions provide additional resources and materials that maximise the quality of our teaching and learning programs and help us provide the best possible education for your children. The contributions enable us to purchase additional reading and library materials, curriculum resources, ICT and a variety of services and facilities which support our educational programs. Q: How much are the Voluntary Contributions? A: Contribution amounts are set and ratified by the School Board each year. The Board has decided to reduce the cost of the Voluntary Contribution from $60 to $50 for the 2021 school year. This decision aims to acknowledge the challenging times and economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Q: They are ‘voluntary’, why should I pay? A: Although its name seems to indicate they are inconsequential fees, your contributions allow our teaching staff to enrich their programs with what we believe are vital educational resources for the classroom. Every cent is allocated to the invoiced School Year and is used on that year so that it benefits your child directly. Should you wish to arrange a payment schedule over an extended period of time you are most welcome to contact Lorraine Popham, Manager Corporate Services on 6207 6100.
