TONIGHT’S PRESIDER
Fr. Memo Campuzano, C.M.
Fr. Guillermo (Memo) Campuzano, C.M., became the vice
president for DePaul’s Mission and Ministry division in
March 2020.
A DePaul alumnus, Fr. Memo returns to his alma mater
from an assignment at the United Nations, where he
served as a representative for the Congregation of the
Mission. He previously held multiple positions at DePaul,
including director of the Office of Religious Diversity,
university chaplain in Catholic Campus Ministry, as well
as an adjunct professor in the departments of Religious
Studies, Catholic Studies, Modern Languages, and the
School for Public Service.
Fr. Memo has a vast experience with the Vincentian
Family advocating for and developing systemic change
programs for people left behind in our society. At the
United Nations, Fr. Memo directed global advocacy on
behalf of the Vincentian mission. He was the creator and
coordinator for the Vincentian International Network for
Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation. He also served
as chair of the United Nations’ Working Group to End
Homelessness since 2017.
Born and raised in Colombia, Fr. Memo was ordained as a
Catholic Vincentian priest in 1993.

Luke 23:35-43
GOSPEL REFLECTION
MARK 1:12-15
In the Gospel, Jesus is being tempted by Satan during his forty
days in the desert. Like Jesus, we will also face temptations
and fall into sin. This is inevitable but we should not use this
as an excuse to justify our sinfulness. In the gospel, Jesus says,
“This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). When we fall
into sin we are called to repent and ask for God's forgiveness.
This is difficult because we have to confront our shame and
take responsibility for our actions. Only when we truly humble
ourselves we begin to grow closer to God.
Sin prevents us from being the person God calls us to be
and hinders our relationship with him. How can we live out
God's mission when we are weighed down by all our sins?
It is especially difficult to live a life of grace and follow God’s
mission in this world. We can look to Jesus as a model because
he knew what it was like to be human. In the bible, it said that
“Jesus wept” (John 11:35). Jesus took on sins that he never
committed because of his unconditional love for us. Striving for
holiness does not mean we are perfect; it means we are human.
Malina Baer I find it comforting that God does not expect us to be perfect.
My Religion teacher always said, “Nothing given to God is ever
Sophomore wasted.” God invites us to let him into our brokenness so he
can transform our lives.
Yes, sin is bad, but it reminds us that we are human and are
prone to making mistakes. God’s love is unconditional, and
he loves us despite our faults. He forgives our sins and always
encourages us to have a close relationship with him. So, no
matter how broken you feel, remember that you are loved.
We have the opportunity to say yes to God’s redeeming grace
today, will you?

taught us to cast out the leaven of malice, so that, celebrating the Paschal Mystery,

You, therefore, almighty Father,
we bless through Jesus Christ your Son, who comes in your name.
He himself is the Word that brings salvation, the hand you extend to sinners,
the way by which your peace is offered to us.
When we ourselves had turned away from you on account of our sins,
you brought us back to be reconciled, O Lord, so that, converted at last to you,
we might love one another through your Son,
whom for our sake you handed over to death.
And now, celebrating the reconciliation Christ has brought us, we entreat you:
sanctify these gifts by the outpouring of your Spirit,
that they may become the Body and + Blood of your Son,
whose command we fulfill when we celebrate these mysteries.
For when about to give his life to set us free, as he reclined at supper,
he himself took bread into his hands, and, giving you thanks, he said the blessing,
