3D Game Design With Unity
 ONLINE
Ages 8–10. Are you ready to take your game design skills to another level? With Unity, an industry
grade design sofware, aspiring game designers will learn level editing, 3D modeling, intermediate
event scripting, and the impact of game play on user experience. Student-created games will be avail-
able on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. You will work
in pairs or teams for most of the program. Ofered in cooperation with Black Rocket Productions

Acrylic Painting for Elementary Artists
Ages 8–10. Explore techniques in acrylic painting as you learn about color relationships, creating
texture, and adding shadows and highlights. Subjects for paintings will come from your close ob-
servation and your own imagination. Work with canvas and create fnished works that will be ready

Advanced Robotics
Ages 8–10. Create basic artifcial intelligence (AI) to program a robot using visual and text-based
code. Utilize a variety of sensors that help your robot navigate and overcome daily class challenges.
With your teammates, apply diferent coding concepts while using the scientifc method to formulate,
observe, experiment, test, and modify your robot. You will work in teams for most of the program.

variety of relevant technologies. Build circuits as well as construct and program robotic devices. Use a
global positioning system to play a high-tech game of hide and seek. Practice skills such as orienteer-
ing, treasure hunting, and waymarking, better known as geocaching. Discover the FUNdamentals of

HCC chef leadership, you will learn the basics of
baking, including how to read a recipe, measure
ingredients, how to cream, whisk and knead,

as practice kitchen safety. Tis is a hands-on class

   Elisabeth (Lisy) Holloway is a parent, teacher and artist. She holds a BA in General
   Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art and an MA in Transformative
   Leadership and Social Change from Maryland University for Integrative Health.
   She's been teaching for 20 years. She has worked in public and private schools,
   after school programs, camps, community centers, preschools, home schools, and
   homeless shelters. For a few years, she created and ran a nonprofit organization
   designed to bring art to children and families experiencing homelessness. Lisy
   has been an art educator in Howard County for 11 years as both a substitute

3D Modeling and Gaming Animation
Ages 12+. Learn how to develop 2D and 3D animation for use in presentations and multimedia
applications. Generate 3D models using vertices, edges, and polygons that are manipulated to shape
your objects. Imagine the process as working with high-tech Play-Doh. Use animation sofware,
create storyboards to produce animations, and construct interfaces between graphic and animation
programs. Learn how to develop 2D and 3D animations to import into a 3D game. 2 weeks $339

   Meet Our Instructor                                     David Hinton
   David Hinton is HCC’s director of technology for the Division of Science,
   Engineering, and Technology. He has worked at Howard Community College
   for 30 years and has been a Kids on Campus instructor for 20 years. He
   became the first full-time faculty for HCC’s computer aided drafting and
   design program in 1992. He regularly works on special projects for HCC
   including creating a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) map of the
   college. Other projects include creating a Science, Technology, Engineering
   & Math (STEM) program for roller skating, and a Science, Technology,
   Engineering, Arts & Math (STEAM) program for bowling and roller skating,              3D Modeling and
   which is currently being used at a local skating facility. He has worked for         Gaming Animation
   a number of engineering firms and architects as well as a management
   position for a large defense contractor in northern Virginia. He is currently working with MCCEI
   and the Maryland State Department of Education to redesign and develop a Construction Design &
   Management Program for MD high schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business information
   systems and associate degrees in manual drafting and computer-aided design.
