President’s Report 2019-2020 Saint Francis University It is in giving that we receive. — St. Francis of Assisi PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2020 1
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Peace and good! On-campus life, face-to-face learning, and our strategic plan Francis 2020, all came to an abrupt and involuntary halt on Friday, March 13, 2020. Our faculty and staff pivoted on a moment’s notice to transition to virtual learning. Our students’ transformational experiences continued in the spring 2020 semester, albeit in a much different fashion. Through the darkest days of the pandemic, I was touched by the generosity of our alumni. The Student and Community Emergency Fund was established and funded to the tune of $65,318 within two months. Grants were awarded to current students to help with unexpected expenses and hardship due to the pandemic and to community members served by the Dorothy Day Outreach Center. One could say the Feast of the Resurrection took place on June 1, 2020: our campus returned to life. On that day, lion in commitments for Phase 2 and we are grateful for the Saint Francis University welcomed a cohort of 55 Physician continued support of our benefactors. Grateful Students Many shared their notes of gratitude and below are a few highlights. “This obviously isn’t how the Class of 2020 expected to end our final semester at SFU. Something that has helped us through it is the support of the SFU community including the Alumni Association. … You’ve given us a great example of what it means to be part of the SFU Alumni family and I’m excited to join! — Emily Graziano “The Student Emergency Fund gave me funding to purchase my textbooks for the next semester after I lost my job due to the virus. Without these funds I would have been put into a position of deciding which textbooks were most important to purchase or having to take out larger loans to purchase textbooks.” — Patrick McCauley “Thank you for the support and extra boost due to the COVID 19 disruption in my daily activities and events.
