to TEACH 2021 SENIOR BOWL On Tuesday, March 16, our seniors got together to take part in the St. Patrick’s Day Senior Bowl. Boulevard Bowling Alley opened their doors early so our seniors could have a day of fun together as a class. Lunch was provided, and WickedSmart made commemorative t-shirts with all of our seniors’ names on the back. Coach Burns brings more than 20 years of experience as an educator. He began his teaching career at St. Patrick’s Academy in Catskill and, since 2001, has taught K-6 grade at Sacred Heart School in Troy, NY. Burns also has 19 years of experience coaching varsity football. Over the last six seasons as head varsity coach at Troy High School, Coach Burns accumulated a record of 58-4 with three undefeated seasons and two state championships. THE CBA MAGAZINE | CHRONICLES “SOUPER BOWL” COMPETITION In honor of the Super Bowl, we held our first “Souper Bowl” Competition at CBA. Bins in front of the school were labeled with the two Super Bowl teams, and students donated non-perishable food items in the bin of the team they thought would win the game. (The Kansas City Chiefs were selected by the student body to win the Superbowl.) This was a middle school vs. high school competition, and the middle school won by donating 1,400 units. OPERATION ADOPT A SOLDIER SERVICE DAY In total, we collected 2,400 food units as a school. MOTHERS’ REVIEW Following graduation, our seniors participated in CBA’s annual Mothers’ Review, a special tradition to honor our seniors and their families. During this ceremony, mothers and special guests were asked to participate by receiving their son’s sword and officer’s hat as a token of appreciation. The brigade conducted a final pass and review as a sign of respect to the departing senior class before formally dismissing the class of 2021 and taking over the leadership role of the school. JROTC OFFICERS COMMISSIONING On May 24, CBA held its annual commissioning ceremony. The class of 2022 went through leader selection and were measured in a number of different categories, ranging from GPA and merits to their ability to influence and lead fellow classmates. The top candidates went before an interview board made up of administrators, instructors, and faculty, after which the board selected the brigade commander and assigned other positions. He sat on the first U.S. Catholic Bishops’ Advisory Council, was a past president of the U.S. Catholic Social Action Conference, represented the United States at the celebration of Rurum Novarum, and was the chair of the Commission for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs for the Albany Catholic Diocese for over 25 years. Reverend Father Jim Kane, the director and ecumenical officer for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, blessed a beautiful print, “Christ the Teacher,” in memory of Bill and all he stood for as a member of the Catholic community.
