Staring towards Bologna from the hill of San Luca, I behold the beauty of the works
of Man; as I turn towards the Apennines, I contemplate the majesty of the works of Nature.
INTRODUCTION
Resulting from the merging of the municipalities of Porretta Terme and Granaglione,
Alto Reno Terme is located in the Reno valley, by the namesake river, in the Tuscan-
Emilian Apennine. The town is 59 km far from Bologna and 34 km from Pistoia. Both
cities can be reached either by car via main road 64 and by train via the Porrettana
railway. Distinctive in Alto Reno Terme are the high environmental quality and a
favourable geographic position.
Strategically located towards important art cities, abounding in ancient hamlets and
famous sanctuaries, magnet for thermal tourism, winter sports and, thanks to its
thriving green, many more wellness activities, Alto Reno Terme has developed a
