An IconicJourney Egypt & Nile Cruise Adventure F E AT U R I N G A N E X T E N S I O N TO J O R D A N & P E T R A Dear Alumni and Friends, The Alumni Association is pleased to invite you on an extraordinary journey to explore the incomparable treasures of Pharaonic Egypt. This program has been specially designed for Ole Miss alumni to include many of the country’s most iconic treasures, as well as unusual points of interest often overlooked by other programs. In Cairo, take a fascinating stroll along El Moaz Street to Bab el-Futuh, the North gate of Old Cairo. Along the way is a cascade of stunning Islamic architecture, considered by many to be some of the finest in the Middle East. Visit the iconic three Great Pyramids of Giza: Khufu, Khafre & Menkaure. Marvel at the precision and elegance of the Pharaoh’s Solar Boat. At Sakkara see Djoser’s famous Step Pyramid, the first monumental structure made of stone. Travel to Upper Egypt for a three-night cruise from Aswan to Luxor on the legendary River Nile. Visit the archaeological excavations currently being conducted on Elephantine Island. Sail around Lord Kitchener’s Island on a charming felucca, a traditional Egyptian sailing craft. In the Valley of the Kings follow in the steps of Howard Carter as you descend into King Tut’s Tomb! Explore Luxor Temple and the recently completed Avenue of the Sphinxes bathed in the lucent fading light of sunset. Spectacular! Continue your journey with a four-night extension to Jordan. Explore one of the most fascinating sites in the entire Mediterranean region - the long lost, rose-colored City of Petra. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Petra, the ruined capital of the Nabateans, was sculpted from a mountain range and lost for a thousand years. Travel on the King’s Way via the mosaic city of Madaba, Mt. Nebo, the supposed burial site of Moses, and Shobak Crusader Castle. Take an excursion to mesmerizing Wadi Rum, the desert hideaway of Lawrence of Arabia. Wadi Rum is a moonscape of ancient valleys and towering weathered sandstone mountains rising out of the white and pink colored sands. Stunning in its natural beauty, Wadi Rum epitomizes the romance of the desert and is home to several Bedouin tribes. With a significant savings of $400 per couple, we anticipate this program will fill quickly. Email Hellen Willett at Destinations & Adventures International at hwillett@daitravel.com to register for this program. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Kirk Purdom Executive Director Ole Miss Alumni Association For more details contact Destinations & Adventures at: HWILLETT@DAITRAVEL.COM
