We would like to thank the parents and students who wished us well on the day. It’s great to be appreciated. Personally we would like to sincerely thank our hard-working volunteers – we simply couldn’t run the tuckshop without your support. Many, many thanks – you are all fantastic! On Friday night the 3 of us attended the Qld Association of School Tuckshops “Tuckshop of the Year” awards. We were finalists again so we were awarded a Top 10 Tuckshop in Qld Award. It was great to be recognized by our Association in this way. This year’s theme for TOY entrants was Community Engagement and it was remarkable to hear the stories of the other finalists – there are some amazing people working in tuckshops, doing wonderful work in their schools and communities. We heard about a tuckshop that had prepared lunches for other schools during the floods in Townsville early in the year; a tuckshop that had to suddenly cope with an influx of students after a fire at a nearby school; and the incredible story of Caboolture Special School – their tuckshop is run by a teacher, a teacher aide and 9 students. They are open 2 days a week and use the tuckshop to help develop cooking and social skills of the older students. It certainly was humbling for us to be considered for Tuckshop of the Year, given the outstanding contributions made by these tuckshops. This Term… The last day for tuckshop this year will be Wednesday 11 December. We are not open on the last Thursday and Friday of the school term. As we head to the end of term we run our freezers down for the long school holiday break so as the term progresses you might find that some items are not available. We try hard to get our numbers right and make all items available up until the last day, however it is not always possible so we apologise in advance if your child’s favourite item is not available as we get closer to the end.
Farewell… We would like to say a very, very fond farewell to Shannon Parish, Educational Leader from SACCS. Shannon had worked for the P&C Association for 13 years, a long time to invest in one organization. We can say without doubt Shannon has been our biggest supporter – always telling us what a great job we do, encouraging us to try new things and just generally being our friend. As the school numbers have grown we have become busier and some days we have struggled to have the lunches ready by the bell. Countless times we have yelled Shannon’s name and she has come running to help us finish lunches and pack bags. She has helped us on more occasions than we can count – so many times that we have dubbed her “the 4th-in-charge” – actually I think she gave herself that name and it has stuck! We wish her so much happiness and success in her future – we will miss her energy, enthusiasm and support, more than words can say. A huge thank you to all who assisted with the MSG chocolate fundraiser. We appreciate your efforts in selling (or buying!) chocolates. Profit from this fundraiser is around $1400 - a fantastic result! We will put this to good use replacing some of the older loan instruments for the music program. New MSG members needed… Please consider joining our small dedicated group of parents that work behind the scenes to help support our teachers and ensure the success of our wonderful music program at WHSS. A number of our long-term committee members will be leaving at the end of 2019 and we would love some new parents to join the committee to help with fundraising, events, uniforms etc (you don't need to know anything about music!). Our next meeting will be next year, keep an eye on the newsletter for the date. MSG usually meets twice a term. For more information, contact the MSG at wellershillmusic@gmail.com - or just come along to a meeting and find out what we do. MSG email list… If your child is new to the music program this year, or you haven't received any emails from the MSG, please subscribe to our email list. This will ensure you receive communications relevant to your child's ensemble(s) or the music program. An online sign up form is available from the music program page on the WHSS website (https://wellhillss.eq.edu.au/Extracurricular/Music/). Thank you for your support! MSG
