PARENT INFORMATION: PLANS FOR SEPTEMBER 2020 Our plans for next year, although not complete, are starting to take shape. It is important we take our time to interpret and implement the government guidance to ensure the safety of everyone. Included in this update are some key details regarding our safety measures from September onwards. Children from Year 1 to Year 6 will return on Thursday 3rd September. Further details will follow before the start of the new term. Key Safety Measure to Protect Children and Staff Government guidance indicates that all schools must comply with the follow four points at all times 1) Minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school 2) Clean hands thoroughly more often than usual 3) Ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach 4) Introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products such as detergents and bleach Number 5 must be properly considered and schools must put in place measures that suit their particular circumstances. 5) Minimise contact between individuals and maintain social distancing wherever possible Government guidance includes the following statements: Ensuring that pupils, staff and other adults do not come into the school if they have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or have tested positive in the last 7 days, and ensuring anyone developing those symptoms during the school day is sent home, are essential actions to reduce the risk in schools and further drive down transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). All schools must follow this process and ensure all staff are aware of it. If anyone in the school becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia), they must be sent home and advised to follow ‘stay at home: guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection’, which sets out that they must self-isolate for at least 7 days and should arrange to have a test to see if they have coronavirus (COVID-19). Other members of their household (including any siblings) should self-isolate for 14 days from when the symptomatic person first had symptoms. Start and End to the School Day A staggered start time is requited to reduce the number of parents on site at any one time. We ask parents to adhere to the details below at all times. Parents will need to respect social distancing and remain 1m+ away from each other whilst on school grounds. If you have more than one child then please arrive at the earliest time indicated below. Children are permitted to enter the school grounds at the permitted time on their own. 1|Page
We ask parents to leave the school grounds promptly as soon as the children are dropped off or collected and hold any social conversations off school grounds. Year Group Entrance to school Time allowed on site Enter classroom End of day collection time Reception / Year 1 KS1 8:35am to 8:45am 8:45am 3:10pm playground gate Year 2 KS1 8:50am to 9:00am 9:00am 3:20pm playground gate Year 3 / Year 4 KS2 8:35am to 8:45am 8:45am 3:10pm playground gate Year 5 KS2 8:50am to 9:00am 9:00am 3:20pm playground gate Year 6 KS2 8:50am to 9:00am 9:00am 3:20pm playground gate Bikes and Scooters Children are allowed to use the bike racks from the start of term. Social Bubbles It is fantastic to welcome back all children. However school will have a ‘new normal’ for a prolonged period of time. These new measures will involve placing the children in social bubbles. 2m social distancing, even 1m social distancing is simply not practical in schools. The alternative is to create social bubbles of children and staff that do not mix with other social bubbles. These social bubbles can be any size but cannot be the entire school. We will have 4 social bubbles in September. Social Bubble 1 Reception and Year 1 Social Bubble 2 Year 2 Social Bubble 3 Year 3 and Year 4 Social Bubble 4 Year 5 and Year 6 Children will be able to move with some freedom within their social bubble Staff can move freely within their social bubble In addition to these social bubbles we will implement various safety measures in school to reduce the risk of spreading viruses. These will include limiting the movement around the classroom; careful consideration given to the layout of tables and the direct children are facing; limiting the number of resources that are shared between children and upholding the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene at all times. Collective Worship Whole school collective worship will not take place until further notice. Our usual Friday celebration assembly will not be happening for at the least the first term. We are currently working on what our alternative celebration worship could look like. Collective worship will still take place throughout the week but this will either be in the classrooms or in the halls with just one social bubble. Whole school worship will be via a video link to each classroom. 2|Page
School Uniform Wherever possible we expect correct school uniform to be worn. However, from Thursday 3rd September through to Friday 18th September, children will be able to wear non-uniform items of clothing. We understand that certain items such as shoes or jumpers may be different from our usual uniform policy. Year 6 do not need to wear their current tie on the first day back. We will present Year 6 with their new ties during this first day back at school. Year 1 children will be wearing ties next year. Details of our uniform policy is on our website. It is important that all uniform items are labelled. Attendance Recording of attendance will resume as ‘normal’ from the start of the term. All children are expected to return to school and absences will be recorded in the usual way. What if my child needs to self-isolate due to having symptoms? If your child needs to self-isolate then this will be authorised absence and we will inform you on how we will support you with some form of remote learning for the 14 days isolation period. Behaviour Policy Addendum Although the whole school is back in September we are by no means ‘back to normal’. Many procedures and restrictions we have had in place since 1st June will need to continue. Some of the social distancing measures in place prevent the school from implementing our normal behaviour management strategies. All children will be introduced to our new behaviour values of ‘Ready, Safety and Respect’ which will underpin our behaviour expectations on our return. As you can see from the attachment, it is written with positive language for the children. We fully expect that the start of the new term will pose a challenge to all our children as most children have been away from school since 20th March. For some the challenge will be greater than others. By setting out our clear expectations, we are empowering children with the information they need to have so they can uphold our highest standards of behaviour at all time. We hope we do not encounter children wilfully ignore adults in school and putting other members of the school community at risk by refusing to follow our clear rules and procedures. Any breach of the rules will be taken seriously. We are not only protecting the physical health of those in school but also their mental and emotional wellbeing. If there are breaches of any safety rules, or children are causing emotional distress to others through their actions then we will talk to parents about the possible need to implement a reduced timetable for your child. Homework Part of our risk assessment is to reduce the items that are transferred between school and home. Homework will still be set but the changes will reduce the feedback we are able to provide the children. We are still finalising the details but our initial plans include the following: Homework book to complete work will remain at home Spelling sheets will be sent home weekly and remain at home Continue to use children’s email addresses as a means of communication between school and home Photographs of complete spelling and homework will be emailed back to the class teachers 3|Page
Lunches ABM lunches We are still finalising our plans with ABM, our catering providers. School lunches will be available to order but we will have a reduced menu, at least for the first few weeks back. Further details will follow. Packed lunches As part of our safety measures children will need to be able to open all their food items on their own, without adult support. Scissors are available in the classroom to help the children open yogurts, etc. Over the past couple of weeks we have had one or two problems with tight lids on water bottles. Can you please check your child can open their own containers – thank you. We are not using cups/beakers so please ensure your child has their water bottle in school. There will be a staggered lunchtime in school with some social bubbles eating in the hall and others in the classroom. Items From Home It is important children do not bring into school any unnecessary items form home. Children only need to bring into school the following: Coat PE kit Book bag/reading book Water bottle Packed lunch Pencil Case (KS2 only) further details will follow. Other items must not be brought into school. Unfortunate we are unable to hand out any gifts the children bring into school. We know children sometimes like to hand out sweets when it is their birthday but we are not able to do this. However we are happy for you to hand these out yourself, directly to the parents, if this is still something you wanted to do. School Office and Communication Wherever possible we ask parents to communicate to school via phone or email. Please only enter the front entrance if you have an arranged visit; if you are unable to commutate via phone or email; or if there is an urgent need to inform the school immediately. No more than 2 parents at a time are allowed in the main entrance area. Wait outside if there are already 2 parents inside Please stand back from the screen whilst talking to our staff. You may be asked to wait in the waiting area or outside the building whilst we are dealing with your matter. Induction Meetings At the start of the new academic year we are holding our parent induction meetings with each year group. This will be an opportunity to find out more about: how the curriculum will be structured routines and expectations for each class timetables including PE, spelling and homework 4|Page
year group specific information Due to social distancing measures these meetings will be spread out for each class. Please add these dates to your diary. Instructions on how and where to enter school will be shared in September. Class Date Time Year 6 Mrs Capstick Monday 7th September 4:30pm Year 5 Mrs Hampson Monday 7th September 5:15pm Year 1 Mrs Haywood and Miss McCauley Tuesday 8th September 4:30pm Year 3/4 Miss Jessett Wednesday 9th September 4:30pm Year 3/4 Miss Howard Wednesday 9th September 5:15pm Year 3/4 Mr Collins and Mrs Whitehead Wednesday 9th September 6:00pm Year 2 Miss Roberts Tuesday 15th September 4:30pm Year 2 Mrs Collins Tuesday 15th September 5:15pm Reception Mrs Haywood and Miss McCauley Wednesday 16th September 4:30pm Year 3/4/5/6 Pencil cases In September we are introducing pencil cases in Key stage 2. The reason for this introduction is three-fold: it supports our hygiene measures by reducing the number of shared resources in the classroom it supports the school budget at a time of significant financial stain it supports the children in valuing their resources. We have used pencil cases in Year 6 since their return on 1st June. The impact of children having their own pencil has amazed us. Usually children are constantly asking for a new pencil or ruler as they can’t find their old one. Overall the children in most classes did not respect the resources in school and simply ‘asked for a new one’ whenever they could not find their current pencil, etc. However since the children in Year 6 have been responsible for bringing in their own resources and looking after them we have not had any lessons when a child has lost their pencil, etc. Next year children in Year 3/4/5/6 will be expected to provide and be responsible for their own resources. Each child is to ideally have two flat pencil cases which will easily fit into a tray. One small flat pencil case will be on their desk throughout the day and then put into their tray overnight so tables can be cleaned. This pencil case will need to include: pencils, 15cm ruler sharpener rubber red biro glue stick scissors whiteboard pen highlighter (Y5/6 only) 5|Page
The second flat pencil case we would like them to have colouring pencils and felt tip pens (this pencil case will mostly live in their tray and will only be on the table when we need to colour ie poster work) Wrap Around Care – New provider in place We are delighted to announce that KidsStop new providers for wrap around care. Here is a little background from Nikki Sexton, the manager and proprietor of KidsStop: I have worked in childcare all of my working life which is now just over 21 years, I have had my own business since 2007 where I opened my first setting at Blisworth Primary School. There I gained Outstanding in 2011 and 2016 in all areas. I went on to win a tender at Barry Primary in 2014 which in 2015 extended to provide a preschool. Since then I have been approached by various schools and now have settings within Northamptonshire providing wrap around and holiday clubs .We currently have 8 settings now and our team is growing every day. We pride ourselves on being a very close, family orientated setting where we very much follow the curiosity approach, using natural and real items and promoting a free flow ethos where children flourish, learn and grow. I am qualified in Early Years and Play, I am the designated lead for safeguarding and I am also an accredited SENDco, I am currently almost at the end of my level 5 Leadership and management and during lockdown I have almost finished my level 2 in “Mental health awareness in children and young people”. We have been lucky enough to win a few awards during most recent years including, “The Best Children’s business in Northamptonshire” in 2017. In 2019 we were a finalist in “ Employer of the year “in the East Midlands, in September 2019 we also made the final in London as “Best Preschool “ In the UK. This year March 2020 we were a finalist in the East Midlands for “Sole trader of the year “. We are very proud of our achievements, it makes the hard work worth while! We are expecting some of the existing breakfast and after school club staff to be part of the new wrap around care team. Will breakfast and after school club be running as normal in September? NO. We are still putting together our plans for our wrap around care with KidsStop. ‘Normal’ service will not resume on 3rd September. It could take a few weeks before KidsStop are able to offer a full service. It is our intention to provide a reduced service from 3rd September onwards but we are still working on these plans. Next week we will send out the registration and consent forms register for KidsStop 8:20am Drop Off The 8:20am drop off will not be operating between Thursday 3rd September and Friday 11th September. We need to ensure all our other procedures are robust before reopening this provision (if we feel it is safe and possible to do so). 6|Page
