This plan includes the district and school mission statements, goals and initiatives and strategies. The goals and initiatives are intended to improve student achievement while creating a safe learning environment where all students can learn and grow. The plan development included opportunities for staff input to help identify school needs and strategies to address them. Vernon Board of Education Mission Statement The Vernon Public Schools, in partnership with family and community, is committed to provide a quality education, with high expectations, in a safe environment, where all students become independent learners and productive contributors to society. Vernon Board of Education Vision Statement The Vision of the Vernon Public Schools is that every graduate is a Critical Thinker, Collaborator, Communicator, Resilient Individual, and Responsible Citizen.
Vernon Board of Core Beliefs 1. Increase the achievement of every student through high quality curriculum, instruction and assessment. 2. Promote safe environments that are socially, emotionally, and physically conducive to learning. 3. Build and improve relationships and partnerships with family and community. Vernon Center Middle School Vision Vernon Center Middle School strives to provide a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment. Our goal is to help all of our students reach their full potential by growing academically, socially and emotionally. Vernon Center Middle School Mission The faculty, staff and administration of Vernon Center Middle School are devoted to helping every student achieve his/her maximum individual potential in a supportive environment. We recognize that this goal requires the collective best efforts of school personnel, the student, the parents/guardians and the community at large. Our staff and programs aid in the transition of students from middle school to high school. We offer programs and an environment that provides opportunities for students to participate in 21 st century learning and for sound academic, social, artistic, physical, and emotional growth. We embrace the values of safety, organization, achievement, respect, and responsibility. Assessments Defined: iReady –This is an online, interactive learning environment designed to assess students and then provide individualized instruction based on each student’s learning needs in reading and math. After the assessment, students can log on at school or at home to complete targeted lessons. Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) – The State online assessment given to students in grades 3-8 in reading and math. This test will be given to students in the spring of 2018, and the individual results will be available to schools and parents in fall 2018.
