Volume Issue Our Family News From our Chaplain . . . During Holy Week, we recall the events leading up to Jesus’s death by crucifixion and his resurrection on Easter Sunday. Holy Week has five days of special significance: I - Palm Sunday where we commemorate Jesus humbly entering Jerusalem riding a donkey to celebrate Passover. He met with crowds who proclaimed him the son of David (Matthew 21:5) II - Holy Thursday, we recall Jesus’s last supper with his Disciples where he instituted the Holy Eucharist which is the central element of Christian worship. Jesus also commissioned the Disciples to serve others following his excellent example of offering himself for us. III - Good Friday is when we commemorate Jesus’s suffering and death on the cross for our salvation. IV - Holy Saturday, also called Easter Vigil, is the traditional end of Lent. V - Easter Sunday is the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Luke 24:1-12. The Resurrection of Jesus is something I can’t prove to you. We see this not with the eyes on our face but with the eyes of our faith. Easter Sunday begins the period of the Easter season when we celebrate Jesus’s extraordinary rise from the dead. He is alive. He is with us in our daily lives. Mass Schedule for Easter Week: Holy Thursday: Mass at 3 p.m. Good Friday: Mass at 3 p.m. Holy Saturday: No mass 1
Life Enrichment A highlight of March activities was our Winter Wonderland Resident Ball! Residents had their hair styled, nails painted and, sporting glit- ter head bands and fancy baubles, headed for an evening of music, hor’s douvres and even some dancing!! Travel Club visited Ireland in March - the perfect time to enjoy the St Patrick’s Day festivities! Highlights of the trip included a visit to Blar- ney Castle where we watched as visitors kissed the Blarney Stone and a stop at Trinity College to see the enormous library, and The Book of Kells – a manuscript of the four gospels that dates back to the early 800s. The trip finished by listening to James Galway play “Danny Boy” on his flute and watching some traditional Irish step dancing. Residents tried Reuben sliders while socializing and listening to some Irish Pub music. So many of our residents had pets throughout their lives and so our dog and puppy visits, which are once again occurring weekly, are very popular! Residents can hold, pet and offer treats to the four legged visitors. Everyone enjoyed the usual selection of dining activities in March. Our Chef Showcase creation was a Shamrock Shake! Our dining with the Dietitian event featured a mango green smoothie to highlight national nutrition month. It’s made with 4 simple ingredients and is jam-packed with vita- min A, vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium, fiber and calcium. Ingredients included mango, banana, spinach and Almond Milk. The March Special Meal was a Mardi Gras themed event.. Residents enjoyed shrimp etouffee, sausage skewers and bourbon street chicken, red beans and rice and fried okra. Bananas Foster was served for dessert. As we spring into Spring, our beautiful grounds are beginning to sprout colorful blooms and we are looking forward to the warmer weather and a selection of new activities planned for spring! 2
