ORDER OF SERVICE Voluntary Moonlight Sonata Beethoven Call to Call to worship. Worship “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which can never be shaken, never be moved” (Psalm 125: 1) Praise 132 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise 1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise. 2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; thy justice like mountains, high soaring above thy clouds, which are fountains 3 To all, life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish, but naught changeth thee. 4 Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight. All praise we would render: O help us to see 'tis only the splendour of light hideth thee. Prayers of Approach, Confession and the Lord’s Prayer
Old 1st Kings 17: 8-16 (p. 317) Testament 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, 9 "Arise, go to Zar'ephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you." 10 So he arose and went to Zar'ephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, "Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink." 11 And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, "Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand." 12 And she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a cruse; and now, I am gathering a couple of sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die." 13 And Eli'jah said to her, "Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord the God of Israel, 'The jar of meal shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not fail, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.'" 15 And she went and did as Eli'jah said; and she, and he, and her household ate for many days. 16 The jar of meal was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD which he spoke by Eli'jah. Anthem Epistle John 6: 1-14 (p. 92)
1 After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiber'i-as. 2 And a multitude followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were diseased. 3 Jesus went up on the mountain, and there sat down with his disciples. 4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. 5 Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a multitude was coming to him, Jesus said to Philip, "How are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?" 6 This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little." 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, 9 "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are they among so many?" 10 Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place; so the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, "Gather up the fragments left over, that nothing may be lost." 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten. 14 When the people saw the sign which he had done, they said, "This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world!" Praise 137 All Things Bright and Beautiful
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all. 1 Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings, he made their glowing colours, he made their tiny wings: 2 The purple-headed mountain, the river running by, the sunset, and the morning that brightens up the sky: 3 The cold wind in the winter, the pleasant summer sun, the ripe fruits in the garden, he made them every one: 4 He gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell how great is God Almighty, who has made all things well. SERMON “God Can Handle It” Praise 462 The King of Love My Shepherd Is
1 The King of Love my Shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never; I nothing lack if I am his and he is mine for ever. 2 Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul he leadeth, and where the verdant pastures grow with food celestial feedeth. 3 Perverse and foolish oft I strayed; but yet in love he sought me, and on his shoulder gently laid, and home rejoicing brought me. 4 In death's dark vale I fear no ill, with thee, dear Lord, beside me; thy rod and staff my comfort still, thy cross before to guide me. 5 Thou spread'st a table in my sight; thy unction grace bestoweth; and oh, what wonder and delight from thy pure chalice floweth! 6 And so through all the length of days thy goodness faileth never: Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house for ever! Offerings Prayers of Dedication, Thanksgiving and Intercession Praise 470 Jesus Shall Reign, Where’er the Sun
1 Jesus shall reign where e'er the sun does its successive journeys run; his Kingdom stretch from shore to shore, till moons shall wax and wane no more. 2 People and realms of every tongue declare his love with sweetest song; and infant voices shall proclaim their early blessings on his name. 3 Blessings abound where Jesus reigns: the prisoner leaps to lose their chains, the weary find eternal rest, and all who suffer want are blessed. 4 Let every creature rise and bring the highest honours to our King; angels descend with songs again, and earth repeat the loud Amen.
