Tidings of Peace June 2022 Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:2 Spring rains are part of the general spring cleaning we experience at this time of year, it is wonder- ful. The green and growth along with the clean pavement and surfaces can be very refreshing. We anticipate and look forward to the change made by the spring rains. It is comforting to see how Ho- sea connects the spring rains to the faithfulness of the Lord. In God’s word you and I are able to be refreshed and receive the needed nourishment for our faith to grow in God and his will for our lives and the lives of our neighbors. There are times when God’s word will come and cleanse you of false beliefs that the cold frozen winter of this world can deposit in your life. It’s true that people will look for ways to help you come to understand and accept a new point of view in the guise of freedom and liberty. “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. 2 Peter 2:1-3 This is evident in the argument of those supporting abortion. No one should be able to tell another person what they should do with their body. “My body, my choice!” This certainly is not true as the child in the womb is not part of the woman’s body but a new child created by God. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corin- thians 6:19-20 In creation God made all that is, He has and exercises his authority over the creation and over mankind. Not only are we his creation but doubly we belong to him as Jesus shed blood and death on the cross of Calvary now redeem us from eternal death sin demands of those who sin. The idea that we are free individuals from others and have no authority over us is just one example of a false belief that is not part of God’s will for us and should be purged in the spring cleaning of our mind. Many more subtle destructive heresies exist in our society that are proudly flaunted as progress and bettering our society, often God’s word exposes them to be a destructive mire leading away from God and the eternal life he desires for every man, woman and child. Join me in studying God’s word so that your mind would be renewed by the Holy Spirit and you would lead a life that honors God in what you think, say and do. Pastor Samuel
