MAY + JUNE + JULY 2019 the NET Migrations mark our life — and lifers — with Christ It was a lifer, not a twitch. And, to be more specific, a tart’s tick…OK, I confess… an armchair tick. Doesn’t matter – the burst of yellow with black and white markings was a beautiful sight to behold, and one I enjoyed for a full 10 minutes as the American Goldfinch perched on the feeder. It was my first sighting of such a bird, therefore, a lifer, as they say in birder world. If I had traveled long distance ST. JAMES DAY for the encounter, it would have been a twitch. But no, the hungry Goldfinch BLUEGRASS & landed right outside our kitchen window…so not just a tart’s tick in that I added this relatively common species to my life list later than expected…but an BARBECUE armchair tick…you get the idea. For others, it might be an armchair tick, revelations that come without ever leaving home. My hope is that, as we go, we will keep in mind that wandering preacher named Jesus who is our model for a life of faith…always moving, even unsettled, in his life and even after his resurrection…yet always firmly rooted in the God who is the ground of our being. Wherever we are and wherever we’re headed in this migratory season, may we encounter new perceptions about ourselves, our world, and our God – lifers, as they say in the birding world. 1803 Highland Hollow Dr., Conroe, Texas Life, as we say in the name of Christ.
