MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN June 2021 – Happy Father’s Day - Happy Summer - Happy Summer Sols5ce I am told that VOLUNTEERS HAVE BETTER MENTAL HEALTH We have been in some form of lockdown for almost fiHeen months, so hopefully we are nearing the light at the end of the tunnel. Many of us have had our COVID shot(s) and with numbers coming down there is hope we will have a be3er summer. With Stage 1 star=ng on 1 June things are star=ng to open up. Keep up the good work and we could/should have a good summer. From the NEWS, they say we are entering Storm Season, so if you have a sump pump, please check that it is opera=ng properly. Also, the city suggests that we have some form of Emergency kit, so that if we have to evacuate, we will be be3er prepared. Check flood- info@newsle3ers.calgary.ca for more informa=on. With the COVID lockdown we are not sure how things will proceed with re-opening Ogden House. We at present are not able to have any “in person mee=ngs”. The Government passed Bill 53, which overrides some bylaws and gives permission to have electronic mee=ngs. Many of our members do not have email and several more do not have ZOOM capability. This would leave them out of the loop for an Electronic AGM. Your Board has agreed that due to the COVID Lockdown and with half of the Board having one more year of their two-year term and the other half are up for re-elec=on, that we will remain as the Board un=l such =me as we are able to have an in-person Board Mee=ng and our Annual General Mee=ng. With Ogden House being closed we have very li3le business to transact. If any member strongly op- poses this, please let us know. Once a month we receive food hampers from the Jewish Family Services of Calgary. These hampers are delivered to needy seniors in the community. Also, once a month we get bread from COBS Bakery in Shawnessy. This also goes out to seniors. I would like to THANK all those who helped deliver this food to our needy seniors. It is muchly appreciated by them. I would like to THANK all those that submi3ed ar=cles to the Newsle3er about “What I did during the pandemic”. There stories were very interes=ng. Darleen Swanson, Margaret Moffat and Darleen Bowser have been busy in the kitchen whipping up another fabulous gastronomic delight for our TGIF dinner. Hopefully you ordered yours and enjoyed it. And Thank You to those who delivered them. Erika is working on a podcast from Ogden House. She will have more informa=on on this. Anyone with sugges=ons for seniors in Cal- gary is welcome. Please let her know. Thank you to all of our members for their support and to our wonderful staff who have kept things going behind the scenes while we have been closed. When we re-open we will have a HUGE Party as well as a celebra=on of life for members we have lost. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all those born in June. Take Care, Stay Healthy, Stay Safe, Stay Strong and have a great summer. We will overcome this. Cheers Dave 3
