Dear Parent/ Guardian, Welcome and congratulations on securing a place for your young person on the NCS 2018 summer programme! Your programme fact sheet has been designed to give you all the information to prepare your young person for their NCS journey. Just to refresh your memory, we have included the programme overview for you below, before tucking into the specifics of your programme. The NCS Summer 2018 Programme Overview Phase 1: Adventure (Monday – Friday) All participants will be taken to an outdoor residential activity centre in an idyllic location out of the county, where they will take part in activities such as caving, rock climbing, surfing and canoeing. A coach will pick all participants up from their assigned “team” location before arriving at a centralised Oxfordshire location for final registration. When all set, the coach will take all participants to their designated destination. All equipment for activities will be provided, as well as food and accommodation. The coach will return all participants to the same location they were collected from. Phase 2: Discovery (Monday – Friday) After going back home and relaxing for the weekend, all participants will return for a local festival themed residential, glamping at our stunning Hill End Centre Eynsham Road, Oxford, OX2 9NJ. It is here all participants engage in workshops that have been designed to make them stand out to potential employers, Universities and prepare them for phase 3. There is also plenty of time to chill out next to our camp fire, watch movies in the large on site stretch tent and hang out with friends. Phase 3: Social Action (Total of 60 hours over two weeks) Participants within their teams will identify a cause or charity they are passionate about, and invent a campaign or fundraising project to aid them. This is a chance to show their initiative, teamwork and leadership skills and make a change in their local community. During the first week, venues have been arranged for participants to meet with their teams. Phase 4: Celebration Participants receive a nationally recognised certificate signed by the prime minster and have the chance to celebrate all achievements with friends, family and dignitaries at a prestigious event at Oxford Brookes University on Saturday 8th September, 2018, 2 – 4pm.
