Mr Potato Head started out as a real potato. The Mr Potato Head kit did not come with a potato torso, so children had to provide their own potato. Over the past few weeks we have enjoyed making the Mr Potato Head toy in many different ways from past to present. Dream, Believe, Achieve. Dear parents, carers and community members, Welcome to week 5 of term 3. What a wonderful netball quarter final game we witnessed against Yamba Public School last Thursday! The lead was jostled between both teams until the match ended in a draw with extra time required. After a close competition Yamba Public School won and will go onto the semi finals of the PSSA netball competition. Well done to our team who played really well only to be just beaten by a team who was much taller and very polished. Mrs Emma Shields was offered and accepted the support class teacher position at Casino West Public School after being successful in the merit selection process. Pending a 10 day appeal period, Mrs Shields will be welcomed as a permanent staff member at Casino West Public School. Congratulations Mrs Shields! We are now waiting for applications for our Support Class School Learning Support Officer and our Aboriginal Education Officer to be submitted. After the close dates the merit selection process will continue for these positions. Our canteen has been running very well and families are making great use of healthy lunches at a reasonable price being available for students. Thank you to our volunteer canteen manager, Louise Amey for your ongoing dedication and support in running the canteen. If we are to continue to have canteen for 5 days a week we really need to get some more volunteers to assist Louise. If we cannot get some regular volunteers we may need to consider cutting the number of days the canteen operates. Please complete the form in this newsletter if you are able to assist in the canteen any day during the week. Thank you. Many families will have received a $50 Target voucher from the Daisy Foundation who sent us a number of vouchers to support students and for families recovering from the effects of bushfires last year. Unfortunately since Target in Casino has shut you will need to purchase items online or head to a store further away when you feel comfortable to do so. We thank the Daisy Foundation for this kind gesture. Last week 20 stage 3 students attended the Junbung Walkway opening and were very impressed with the work done by high school students in conjunction with the council, to develop an area demonstrating the cultural significance of this area and creating local bush tucker plantings. Congratulations to all students who achieved their bronze level last week, 88% is such a high level of safe, responsible and respectful students at our school! Well done everyone. Have a great week! Lesley Mills Principal “I caught SO many students speaking kindly and respectfully to their friends and teachers last week. It makes me very happy and very proud of you!”

Environmental Education Last week some of our Stage 3 students and K-6H had the pleasure to work with Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre. They helped us to begin the process of putting together a School Environment Management Plan. Tamlin was our guest speaker and she had a wealth of information to share to help us develop a greater understanding of the impact of people on the environment. We conducted energy, waste and water audits to identify the areas of the school environment that we could manage more effectively. We discovered that at Casino West Public School, we are doing a lot of positives things. There wasn’t a single leaking tap in the entire school! We also considered what we could do in our local community. Did you know that all hard plastics can be returned to the supermarket for them to recycle?
