The Federation looked beautiful and bright with all of the different shades of yellow. You helped raise over £229....incredible. The money goes to the Young Minds Charity, that support children and families around mental health. It was great to hear across the schools, children talking about their own mental health and wellbeing, such a wonderful way to support World Mental Health Day. Thank you again. Miss Cook and Mrs Cass - Peacock Class. As you may already know, Mrs Hannah Gent will be leaving us at half-term. I have the pleasure of informing you that we have appointed a new Administrative Assistant, to be based at MIS. Mrs Patricia Webster, who is currently working at The Blue Sky Federation (Erpingham and Northrepps) will be joining us on 28th October (and for a few days between now and then to ensure a smooth handover). We very much look forward to her joining the team at The Coastal Federation. Get arty!!! You can’t get much simpler than this! It’s called a Back and Forth picture. All you have to do is take turns drawing bits of a picture...one of you might start with a circle...the next person might add some eyes...see how it turns out - will it be a person, a monster, an animal or a building??! The best thing is, you can do it wherever you are and use anything to draw with. https://artfulparent.com/a-back-and-forth-drawing-game/ Let Boo know if you’d like to share an art activity. Email me on b.tumber@coastalfederation.com Get cooking!!! This is a really easy and filling tea or lunch. You can choose to use different vegetables and cheddar cheese instead of feta if you want. Have fun making it together! It made me hungry just reading the recipe! https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/420652/easy-cheesy-frittata Let us know if you’d like to share a recipe. Email Boo on b.tumber@coastalfederation.com Conkers If anyone goes to the woods or is able to collect some conkers for us, we would love them in Reception, to add to our mud kitchen. Many thanks Mrs Steers

These children have received an award in one of our behaviours for learning. Keep up the hard work! Congratulations! These MIS pupils have received an award for being reflective-which is one of our JONK learning behaviours. Keep up the good work! Macmillan Reading Cafe Prize Winners A big well done to our ‘design a chocolate bar’ competition winners. This week, Mundesley hosted Cromer Junior School in a football match. It was a very close match with 0-0 as the score for most of the time, until Cromer broke away Year ⅚ football and ended up with a win. There were some great individual performances and all the children worked well as a team, especially considering it was our first game together! In Orangutan Class class last week… This week we have continued to segment and blend words eg I say c-a-t and the children say cat and if I say sun, the children say s-u-n. Please practise this as much as you can at home with your child, it will all help with their reading and their writing. In maths we have been talking about estimation and that an estimate is a good guess. We have then been counting objects to see if our guesses were good guesses. We then had to find the matching numeral. Everyone tried
really hard. Please practice 1:1 correspondence at home (touching objects as you say the number) and recognising numerals to 10. In topic we have started looking at ‘people who help us’; we created a mind map of all our ideas. We then focused in on firefighters as we have the fire station so close. We thought of lots of questions that we would like the answers to and then we used non fiction books to find out. We’ve been having lots of fun junk modelling this week. If you have any spare cereal boxes, shoe boxes, egg cartons, bottle tops, toilet rolls etc please bring them in so the children can continue to make some more amazing items. Also a big well done to Orangutan Class for an AMAZING Harvest Assembly! In Marine, Polar and Glacier Classes last week… Following all the work we’ve been doing on The Three Little Pigs, we have spent this week looking at the story of The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig! It’s been fun comparing the two stories, creating wanted posters for The Big Bad Pig and thinking about how the pig changes by the end of the story. In maths, we’ve had fun representing numbers in an alternative way - using animals & their legs! Ask your child how they made the numbers to 10 and higher! We’ve used these to write number sentences using addition, more than, less than and equals symbols. In topic, we’ve continued our work on habitats by starting to think about the plants that live in different habitats in our school grounds. Many of us enjoyed wearing something yellow on Thursday as part of World Mental Health Day. In our PSHE session, we thought about things that make us happy. It was lovely to see so many of you at the Harvest celebration on Thursday too. In Land Class last week… We have started to look at addition in maths, using lots of resources to help us. We have been making numbers using bead strings, denes and number cards to help us. In our topic we have been looking at various stone age tools and weapons, we had a go at doing some really detailed pencil sketches of Stone Age axes. We really enjoyed being part of the Harvest Festival in the Church for the first time and hope you enjoyed our performance. In Population Class last week... In English we have started a new story book called ‘Stone Age Boy’. The children have enjoyed reading the book so far and have got lots of ideas for their story writing next week. In topic, we have created some amazing Stonehenge paintings. The children learnt how to mix different shades and how to paint colour gradients which represent a dawn or dusk sky. We then cut out silhouettes of Stonehenge and put them on top of our skies. In Power and Carbon Classes last week….. We have been continuing with our WW2 dance and they are all coming together really well. This has helped with our writing as we have been looking at writing stories set during the Blitz. Our vocabulary walls are growing and the children have been curious; finding out definitions for new words we come across in our reading. Please can you listen to your child read at home or remind them to read to themselves at least 3 times a week! In year 5 maths, we have perfected column addition and we will be moving on to subtraction next week. Ask the children to show you an example! In year 6 we have been focussing on the bar modelling technique and using it to help us decide what calculations are needed to solve word problems.

School Term dates - 2019/2020 & 2020/2021 Please check the newsletter for next year’s and the following year’s term dates. We are currently consulting on the dates for 2020/2021 due to it being slightly different to Norfolk’s calendar however we have included our proposal to give those who are planning future trips plenty of notice. In 2020/2021 where we plan to come back early in September, the school will provide transport for those children who normally use the county bus. PLEASE ensure that all holidays are taken during the designated holiday time
