PURPOSE The purpose of Mississippi Baptist’s Children’s Bible Drill is to help children develop skills in the use of the Bible, increase their knowledge of God’s Word, help them learn the scriptures by heart, and apply the Bible to their lives. Who Can Participate? All children who are classified by their church as third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders are eligible to participate in Children’s Bible Drill. A method of participation can be worked out for handicapped children to fit their individual needs. The method to be used with handicapped children should be the same for all three levels of drills. It will be the responsibility of the child’s adult leader or parent to discuss drill procedure with both the person at the registration desk and the caller in the drill room before the drill begins. Material to be learned 1. Learn the names of the books of the Bible in the proper order and be able to locate them in the Bible. 2. Memorize the 25 verses and their references printed in this pamphlet or on the Bible Drill verse Cards. 3. Memorize the titles and references of the key passages in this panphlet or on the cards and be able to locate the reference in the Bible. CONDUCTING CHILDREN’S BIBLE DRILLS A Children’s Bible Drill consists of 24 calls with 6 calls that come from each of the 4 types of drills listed below. There should be three judges for each drill (one of the judges may serve as the time keeper). AWARDS Certificates First-year participants in Children’s Bible Drill will receive a certificate. The leader will notify MBCB of anyone needing a certificate on the “Church Report Form” that is to be mailed in after the Association Drill is held. Seals Seals are awarded to designate the student’s achievement. One seal is awarded each year to designate the highest level of achievement for that year. Drillers who make more than 12 mistakes in the Church Drill or who choose not to participate in the Associational Drill will be awarded a “Church Participant” seal (all church seals will be mailed to the participant’s church when the “Report Form” is received). Drillers who make more than eight mistakes in the Associational Drill or who choose not to participate in the state drill will be awarded an “Associational Participant” seal (the associational seals will be mailed to the participant’s church when the “Report Form” is received). Drillers participating in State Drills will receive one of the following seals, at State, indicating their level of performance: 0-2 Mistakes Superior 3-4 Mistakes Excellent 5-6 Mistakes Good 7 or More State Participant Special Awards -Ribbons are given to first year drillers in Children’s Bible Drills. -A medallion is awarded to those children who have completed 3 years in Children’s Bible Drills. These medals are awarded at State Drills.
SCORING Judges mark on a score sheet when a mistake is made. At the end of the drill, the total number of mistakes are totaled- determining the level of performance. Only one mistake may be scored for a participant on a single call. Mistakes are: 1. TIME Failure to step forward during the time allowed. [For Mississippi Children’s Drill this is 10 seconds.] 2. RESPONSE Failure to respond properly. Finding the wrong reference. Raising the hand to admit a mistake. 3. BEHAVIOR Any behavior that is improper and disturbing to other drillers and violates the spirit of Mississippi Bible Drills. 4. BIBLE Flagrant abuse of the Bible such as flipping the pages carelessly or closing the Bible with unnecessary noise. 5. PROCEDURE Starting before command “Start” is given. Turning over the Bible before “Start.” Stepping forward before the index finger is on the correct reference.
