AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION ABOUT US The Australian Airports Association (AAA) is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 1982 in recognition of the real need for one coherent, cohesive, consistent and vital voice for aerodromes and airports throughout Australia. The AAA also represents more than 160 aviation stakeholders and organisations that provide goods and services to airports. AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION WELCOME TO OUR LATEST MEMBER UPDATE Welcome to our latest member update. The first quarter of 2020 has seen the industry faced with challenges we have never seen before. The impact of COVID-19 has been swift and dramatic and has changed airport operations overnight. With these unique challenges before us, there has never been a more important time for ensuring we maintain a strong voice for Australian airports. While our focus now is on the immediate impact of COVID-19 on our industry, the AAA has continued to provide a diverse range of member services for you. Our policy team is working alongside both regional and major airport members on a range of issues to make sure we best represent your interests with government and industry. Our popular events program, while moving online in recent months, continues at pace. And our industry development and education agenda progresses, with new resources available to renewing members for free to guide airports’ transition to new CASA regulations later this year. Looking ahead, we know that times are as tough as they’ve ever been, but the recovery for our industry will come and will be strong. We’re working closely with industry and government to make sure airports, together with their partners, are ready to move quickly when that recovery occurs. Your AAA membership ensures you remain informed of the latest information at hand as we work through these unprecedented events, and that your concerns and challenges are heard by the key decision makers in government and industry. We look forward to continuing to work on your behalf in the year ahead. Regards Tom Ganley National Chairman 3

AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION WORKING WITH YOU IN UNPRECEDENTED TIMES Responding to COVID-19 The beginning of 2020 has been dominated by the industry’s response to COVID-19. The significant and immediate impact of the pandemic has been felt by every part of the aviation industry. The AAA conservatively estimates that Australia’s major airports will lose more than $500 million in aeronautical revenue alone this year, as the full impact of this crisis takes hold. The AAA is working closely with our members, partners and government to support the industry as it works through this crisis. We are advocating for our members on support measures that will help you get through and engaging with government on the best way to turbocharge our economy when the recovery comes. We are also sharing the latest information and updates from across the industry to support you with your own response to these unprecedented events, and to share best practice for airport operators. Our industry is resilient and will come back stronger when this time passes. In the meantime, the AAA will be there for you to help navigate this unchartered territory. You can find our latest updates on responding to COVID-19 here. Free resources to help you plan ahead While COVID-19 has seen airport operations significantly impacted by falls in passenger numbers, we know that our members want to make the best use of this time to prepare for recovery. The AAA is providing three months of free access to our online education program to airports who renew their membership for the 2020-21 financial year. Our education resources are in the process of being updated to help airports prepare for the implementation of CASA’s new MOS Part 139 in August. We have worked closely with CASA on the implementation process to ensure it will deliver tangible benefits for our members, in particular regional airports. The training modules will highlight the key issues you need to be aware of to make sure you remain compliant as regulations change, and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies as you move to new approaches. This is the ideal time to brush up on what you need to know. We are also updating our Airport Practice Notes (APNs) in 2020 to provide members with relevant and up-to-date information on all aspects of their operations. The new APNs will be finalised before the new regulations take effect in August. 6

AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION RECENT AAA HIGHLIGHTS James Goodwin appointed as AAA Chief Executive Officer We confirmed the appointment of James Goodwin as our new Chief Executive Officer in March. He will officially join the team in June. James has been the Chief Executive of the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) since 2015. He brings a strong understanding of public policy and significant experience in the transport and infrastructure sector. “We are delighted to welcome James to the AAA following strong interest in the role,” Mr Ganley said. “He will bring a strong understanding of public policy and significant experience in the transport and infrastructure sector as we progress a busy agenda. “James’ experience in the area of consumer advocacy will ensure the passenger remains at the heart of our work as we advance the key issues facing our industry. “We look forward to James leading the AAA’s engagement with our airline partners as we work together at this important time for the aviation and tourism industries.” 8
AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION RECENT AAA HIGHLIGHTS Regional airport funding one step closer The first round of funding grants under the Regional Airports Program are expected to be announced soon, in what will be a gamechanger for the regions. The AAA’s extensive campaign for sustainable regional airport funding led to the announcement of the $100 million program in 2019, with first round applications now closed. The program is expected to fund essential maintenance and upgrades including runway works, lighting and fencing. With so many regional airports struggling to make ends meet across the country, this access to new funding will help our industry meet the needs of local people and businesses for years to come. More information on the program can be found here. 9
AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION RECENT AAA HIGHLIGHTS Productivity Commission confirms airport regulation is fit for purpose The Federal Government endorsed the key findings of the Productivity Commission’s 2019 report on the economic regulation of airports in December, confirming the current regulatory approach remains fit for purpose. The outcome followed an extensive review process that saw the Commission consider hundreds of public submissions and days of public hearing testimony. The AAA actively engaged in the inquiry process, highlighting the strong investment and passenger experience improvements that have been delivered by Australian airports under the current system. The Commission found the current approach was delivering benefits to the travelling public and there was no evidence airports were earning excessive returns. It also dismissed airline calls for a new arbitration model, confirming the airlines’ proposal would put future investment at risk. The review recommended improvements to the existing airport monitoring regime, with consultation on these changes expected to begin this year. The AAA supported this recommendation, which will ensure the public has a clear view of how the monitored airports are listening to customer feedback and striving to deliver the best possible airport experience. 10
AUSTRALIAN AIRPORTS ASSOCIATION RECENT AAA HIGHLIGHTS Airport industry comes together on the Gold Coast The 2019 AAA National Conference was held on the Gold Coast in November, with more than 650 delegates from across the country taking part. The event saw industry leaders and technical experts share insights on the latest developments at Australian airports, from new technology and technical innovation to projects to improve the passenger experience and ensure the sustainable operation of our airports. International keynotes were delivered by Vancouver Airport Authority President and CEO Craig Richmond, City of Phoenix Director of Aviation Services James Bennett and Gatwick Airport Head of Airport Security Damien Trower. Several major airport CEOs and senior aviation executives also provided updates on their businesses as part of the event. The conference was preceded by the AAA’s inaugural Women in Airports Forum, attended by women working in both leadership and operational roles within the airport industry. Due to COVID-19 the 2020 National Conference has been postponed and will now be held at the ICC, Sydney from 15 to 18 November 2021. 11
