LENTEN MIDWEEK MEDITATION MARCH 15, 2023 Office 507-232-3938 Pastor Micah Plocher 507-581-2618 www.trinitynicollet.org
LENTEN MIDWEEK MEDITATIONS The season of Lent covers the forty days between Ash Wednesday and Easter. It is a special time of spiritual focus, of repentance and prayer in preparation for Easter. During this time, our congregation provides special midweek opportunities to step out of our busy routines and meditate on the redeeming work of our Savior Jesus. We recognize our sin, but we also marvel at the forgiving, sacrificial love of God that wiped our sin away. WORSHIP SERIES: PSALMS OF THE PASSION Poetry communicates what is happening beneath the surface – not only the things someone does, but what they think and feel. This Lenten season, the Bible’s poetry in the psalms will give us glimpses of the inner life of our Savior Jesus during his passion. As we meditate on the mind and heart behind the acts of his great love for us, we pray that he would form our minds and hearts to his. SERVING IN WORSHIP TODAY Minister Pastor Ken Mellon (retired, St. Paul’s, North Mankato) Accompanist Kellsie Wasser WE’RE GLAD YOU’RE HERE! Restrooms are to your left as you exit the sanctuary. Stand Jesus Christ is the light of the world, the light no darkness can overcome. Stay with us, Lord, for it is evening, and the day is almost over. Psalm Psalm 109:1–5, 8, 26–28 Read responsively by minister and congregation 1 My God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, 2 for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues. 3 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. 4 In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. 5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship. 8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. 26 Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your unfailing love. 27 Let them know that it is your hand, that you, LORD, have done it. 28 While they curse, may you bless; may those who attack me be put to shame, but may your servant rejoice. Psalm Prayer God of justice, bring to an end the deeds of wicked men. Too often we let our vengeful hearts cloud our ability to respond properly when they abuse us. Only your Son Jesus could endure their unjust deeds. Since he has removed the consequences that our own evil deeds merited, we entrust all justice into your hands. Amen. Offering The members of Trinity Lutheran Church have joined together to do the Lord’s work in this community and throughout the world. Visitors need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry. At this time, we ask both members and guests to fill out the friendship register found at the end of each pew. When you’ve written your information, please pass it to the next person until everyone has had a chance to sign it. Thank you for helping us serve you with the gospel! Stand Lord, Have Mercy In peace let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For the peace from above and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For those who work to bring peace, justice, health, and protection in this and every place, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For those who bring offerings, those who do good works in this congregation, those who toil, those who sing, and all who await from the Lord great and abundant mercy, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For our deliverance from all affliction, wrath, danger, and need, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For the faithful who have gone before us and are with Christ, let us give thanks to the Lord. Thanks be to God. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. Silence for individual prayer may follow. Rejoicing in the fellowship of all the saints, let us commend ourselves, one another, and our whole life to Christ our Lord: to you, O Lord. 7
Prayer of the Day Abide with us, Lord, for it is evening and the day is almost over. Abide with us and with your whole Church. Abide with us in the evening of the day, in the evening of life, in the evening of the world. Abide with us in your grace and goodness, in your holy Word and sacrament, in your comfort and blessing. Abide with us when we are overcome by the night of sorrow and fear, by the night of doubt and affliction, by the night of bitter death. Abide with us and with all your people in time and in eternity. Amen. Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. Let us praise the Lord. Thanks be to God. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
