Tickets on Sale: AIKEN COMMUNITY PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS “THE RAINMAKER” Aiken, SC – “The Rainmaker,” a romantic comedy set on a drought-plagued Midwestern farm, opens at Aiken Community Playhouse on Jan. 12. In the play, the audience is introduced to Lizzie, a plain girl whose father and brothers are as worried about her becoming an old maid as they are about their dying cattle. The brothers try every possible scheme to marry her off without success. Suddenly, a sweet-talking, self-professed “rainmaker” appears in town and promises to bring rain … for a hefty sum of $100. The family pays the fee and bangs on big brass drums to rattle the sky. The rainmaker, Bill Starbuck, also turns his charms to Lizzie, persuading her she has a beauty all her own. Eventually, the rain comes, nourishing not only the land but the family, as well. Show dates are Jan. 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors/active military, $12 for
students and $7 for children. Directed by Maureen Woltermann. Flights are grounded, travelers are stuck at the gates, and events ensue, with a mixture of Elvis music throughout the evening. Jim Moore, Director, has once again led in the creation of this Show, with Agnes
