Garden to Table It was the last GTT session for the year for Tui , Korimako and Ruru. We made a delicious roasted cauliflower salad with snow peas, parsnip kale chips and a tahini dressing. To celebrate the end of a successful GTT year, the children baked chocolate cupcakes, which we enjoyed with strawberries and cream. We are so appreciative of all the family and friends who volunteer their time to make Garden to Table so special at Oropi School. We were able to thank many at a morning tea on Tuesday but classes across the school have made thank you cards or posters to all our helpers - all 34 of you! Whether you help once a term or every week, it is wonderful to see our community sharing in our enjoyment of growing and eating good food with our tamariki. In the garden, Tui Hodgson and Ruru did some last minute garden jobs to prepare for the summer, including feeding our young plants and planting out a few more seedlings. Then we did a garden Scavenger Hunt where we dashed around answering questions about what is growing and where. In their last session, Korimako Higgins planted out courgette and patty-pan squash, dug out weeds from the pumpkin patch and planted a very special Kowhai tree for Mrs Pendergrast's retirement. It was scorching hot by the time we finished working so a few of us enjoyed a jump around under the hose before our shared meal.
