Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    Recommended: Masks & Gloves
         Follow recommendations by local, state, and other governmental authorities.

    Instruction on techniques for putting on, taking off, and disposing of
     gloves and other PPE shall be included in staff training.
         This also includes proper storage and guidelines on re-use.

    Staff should demonstrate competency at following your PPE guidelines.

    Develop a step-by-step process for putting on and removing PPE for
     your staff to follow.

    Develop a step-by-step process for what staff should do if they cross-
     contaminate.

Sanitization? Disinfection? What’s the Difference?

•   Sanitization:                                                            •   Disinfection:

Cleaners:

Disinfectants:
•   70% - 91% isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol), ethanol
•   Barbicide (alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride)
•   Clorox/Lysol disinfecting sprays & wipes

Be sure to use products that are gentle yet effective!
Physical Distancing & Capacity

    Appropriate physical distancing
    Re-evaluate makeup room capacity
    Separate makeup stations by 6 ft / 2 m
    Keep non-essential people out of the makeup room
    Wait for makeup OUTSIDE the makeup room
    Consider physical distancing between departments
    Consider separating the makeup team into work
     teams to reduce cross-team contamination

Stay Clean in the Makeup Room

    No food! Drinks must have fastened lid.
    Sharing is NOT caring!
    Start and end of the day:
      ❖   Disinfect tables, chairs, and high-touch surfaces.
      ❖   Inspect makeup, tools, and brushes.
      ❖   Store makeup, tools, and brushes in clean, closed container.
    During the day:
      ❖   Clean and disinfect tools and brushes in between actors.
      ❖   Wash/sanitize hands before application.
      ❖   Wear gloves and a mask.
    Provide ventilation (preferably exhaust fans)

Dos and Don’ts in the Makeup Room

   DO
      ❖   use a makeup spatula and stainless steel palette to de-pot makeup
             ➢   (cream, adhesive, powder, lipstick, tooth effects, blood)
      ❖   use alcohol-activated palettes and eyeshadows as-is.
      ❖   use single-use applicators (cotton swabs, sponges, applicators, dram cups).
      ❖   store dirty brushes in a closed container.
      ❖   regularly consult actors for latex and other allergies.

   DON’T
      ❖   double dip!
      ❖   use your fingers!
      ❖   use alcohol-based products near eyes, nose, or mouth.
      ❖   use something that has fallen onto the floor.

Cleaning Makeup Products
   Makeup containers with makeup that can be depotted don’t normally
    have to be cleaned and disinfected on the inside.
   Disinfect alcohol-activated palettes and eyeshadow palettes with 70%
    isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and allow to dry.
   Disinfect makeup pencils.
   Disinfect outside of makeup containers with 70% IPA or Barbicide.
   Regularly clean and disinfect outside of makeup kit and containers.
   Always read the label.
Cleaning Tools & Brushes
   Clean and disinfect makeup and hair tools and brushes in
    between actors.
    1.   Wipe away remaining product.
    2.   Thoroughly saturate tools and brushes with brush cleaner or
         99% IPA.
    3.   Rinse/wipe off cleaner.
    4.   Disinfect by spraying/wiping with 70% IPA or Barbicide.
         NOTE: 99% IPA is NOT an effective disinfectant!
    5.   Allow to air dry at suggested contact time.
   Wipe down airbrush equipment with cleaner & disinfectant
   Disinfect airbrush stencils with 70% IPA
This is NOT makeup:
   Always use skin-safe makeup products and makeup blood on the
    face and body.
   “Non-toxic” does NOT mean skin-safe.
   Avoid the following:
    ❖   Acrylic paints
    ❖   Set dressing paint including latex paint and spray paint
    ❖   Non-skin safe airbrush paint
    ❖   Non-skin safe blood (Perma-Blood, etc.)
    ❖   Mask-making latex
    ❖   Sharpies and markers
    ❖   Sharp implements (safety pins, scissors, blades, metal)
Masks, Prosthetics & More

   Follow your manufacturer’s care and maintenance instructions.
   Consider not sharing masks and prosthetics.
   Disinfect masks after each use.
    ❖   Spray or wipe down with 70% IPA. Allow to air dry.
   Regularly clean masks with an appropriate cleaner.
   Foam latex prosthetics are single-use.
   Consider not using fake teeth, fangs, and tooth makeup.
   Launder costumes between use and spray with antibacterial fabric
    spray.
