CITY GOSSIP Having recently won the bid for Channel 4’s HQ, I’m sure we can all agree that big things are heading for Leeds. The news sent shockwaves through the City, with Channel 4’s chief executive Alex Mahon seeing the move to Leeds as an opportunity to capitalise on the Norths strong and fast-growing independent production sector. In response to the news, Cllr Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said "Leeds offers a home in the heart of the UK and the North, with strong links to screen, and a constantly evolving creative sector with huge ambitions to be even greater in the next few years and beyond”. The win is likely to act as a catalyst for further successes and developments in the City – so watch this space. BUT it’s not just Channel 4 that is coming to the city, Leeds have won the bid to host games at the Rugby League World Cup 2021. Leeds will host more than any other city, with Leeds United’s Elland Road claiming a men’s semi-final but also Emerald Headingley Stadium - the home of Leeds Rhinos - three men’s fixtures and two women’s games.
