The Women's Debate Institute is honored to invite
the high school policy and LD community to our
first annual “We Speak: Kamala Harris
Invitational ''! We open this invitation to all
participants who are advocates for gender
inclusion and diversity in debate. We aim to
provide exceptional judging and detailed
feedback to all our participants along with a
roundtable discussion and sponsored lunch as a
continuation of our mission to ensure debate is
affordable and accessible to all students.

Letter from
                the Tournament Director
                 In true WDI fashion, we salute a Queen
                when we see one, in 2021 Kamala Harris
                broke barriers and continues to pave the
                  way for gender minorities all over the
               world. In the spirit of Vice- President Harris
                    it is my honor to welcome y'all to
                               participate!

                 We know 2020 was a difficult year and
                    adapting to the virtual world has
               presented obstacles for everyone. Despite

               virtual programming that focuses on the
Executive       empowerment of our students through
 Director                       debate.

               The Kamala Harris invitational is our first
                   online tournament and we will be
                  providing our participants with free
                registration, free judging, food vouchers,
                     and awards. Not only is this an
                      opportunity to celebrate our
                  achievements of the past 21 years of
               service to the community, but we are also
               educating our participants with our “ Best
                         Practices Round Table.

Policy Debate Topic: Resolved: The United States federal
government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in
the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science,
policing, sentencing.

Lincoln Douglas Topic: TBA
Fee: $0

Registration Deadline: March 27, 2021; Registered teams will be
notified on March 30th, 2021.

Judging: We ask that participants bring a judge per entry and if
they are unable to do so, contact
womensdebateinstitute@gmail.com for judging inquiries. There
will be no pref's at this tournament.
Round table

Before the award ceremony, we invite participants and
members of the community to join us in an hour-long
roundtable discussion on anti-harassment practices. WDI will
be premiering the Best Practices Manual in honor of Women's
Month and would like to focus a discussion on the updates to
the manual and the resources it provides to the community.
We are honored to have Quaram Robinson join us as our
Keynote Speaker! Quaram is the Best Debater of the Decade, A
National Champion, Copeland Award Winner, Scholar,
Educator, WDI instructor & so much more! Along with
moderators such as Ava Vargason (WDI Executive Committee
Member, Project Programming Chair) Sarah Jane Evans (WDI
Instructor, Legal Specialist) and many others!

Participants of the tournament in all divisions will receive awards
for speaker points and overall top performance. Nominees for the
following Awards will be notified in advance to attend the award
ceremony.

WDI Kamala Harris Shero

This award is named after Kamala Harris and is designed to recognize
an outstanding gender minority debate coach in Collegiate or High
school- Policy Debate or Lincoln Douglas. The ideal candidate can
demonstrate service to programs, community building, and competitive
success.

Don’t Stop Director of the year

This award is designed to recognize an outstanding gender minority
director at any level and any debate forum that can demonstrate
resiliency, program success, and community development. We welcome
Collegiate and High School submissions as well as Policy, LD, Parliament,
and Congress.

registration, meal vouchers, judging, and awards
for the tournament. As sponsors, you will receive
an acknowledgment at our award ceremony in our
