Introduction ► MLTCC’s objective is to enable all Juniors to achieve their potential whether that’s leisure play, club or local competition or to play in outside tournaments (national and beyond) ► MLTCC also recognised the need to further develop its Performance Programme ► New approach is a programme with a three tier pathway with clear coaching leads ► Development ► Club ► Tournament
MLTCC Coaching Pathway More advanced skills & outside Tournament tournament play with a higher time commitment Club Skill consolidation & club and local match play Development Foundational and ongoing skills development & leisure play
Structure ► All players in coaching must compete in “REAL” matches ► Quantity of matches may vary depending on what group you are in ► Coaches will design sessions/plans around competitions ► MLTCC will be providing more opportunities with internal and external competitions held on a regular basis ► There will be competitions for all levels ranging from international to orange ball tournaments ► Players will be selected for coaching groups based on the number of matches they play and coaching team’s discretion ► Our aim is to provide a safe, fun environment for players to learn at an optimal level

Club programme ► Next level ► Transition from development to club ► Invited into the club programme based on matches played and level ► Continue to build on the solid foundations ► Knowledge of the game ► Focus on technical, tactical, physical & mental aspects of game ► Demanding more from players ► More commitment ► Training twice a week (or more) ► 30 matches a year ► Log book to monitor matches ► Coaching through competitions ► Following a games based approach ► Creating a team environment ► Teaching life skills
Why match play is important ► Put coaching into a match situation ► Learn what your strengths and weaknesses are ► Gain experience playing under pressure ► Learn how to problem solve on your own ► Not about winning: you either win or learn
Competition Structure ► Phoenix Cat 2 ► 40 national ranking points or less ► Phoenix Cat 1 ► 125 National Ranking points or less ► Open Tournaments ► More than 125 ranking points
Phoenix Event Format ► Main characteristics ► All players are guaranteed multiple matches ► The full event is run within a maximum of 3 days ► Only players with limited competitive experience are eligible to play ► Players can only play in their own age group

What is success? ► Getting as many players transitioned into senior league ► Moving as many players from club to tournament group ► All players playing 30 matches ► Transitioning from phoenix to open tournaments ► Players getting nationally ranked

Tournament Tennis The ITF recommends that: ► Junior players participate in about 100 competitive matches per year, and ► Players maintain a 2:1 win/loss ratio.
Our Aim ► Opportunities for good players to train and compete together ► Improving our league teams ► Giving MLTCC members the platform to perform at a national and international level ► Creating an environment that can get players on Scholarships to the USA ► MLTCC being the front runners in player development
What is involved? Minimum of 60 Play league for Training 4-6 hours Higher level of matches per year MLTCC per week intensity and effort More specific Full-time training Challenge match Match practice technical, tactical camps in the plays vs other sessions physical and summer months clubs mental training
What is success? ► Increase the number of national ranked players ► Open tournament winners ► Internationally ranked players ► Win league titles at junior and senior level ► Getting more players graduating from club to tournament squads ► All tournament players playing 60 matches per year ► Happy players and parents!
