PATIENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS - UPDATE #2 Technology Requirements and Integration with other systems Gordon Munro gordon@peritia.co.nz
Document Purpose This document is the second in a short series being produced on behalf of Nelson Bays Primary Health (NBPH) Trust. The series aims to provide an update to Practice Owners, Managers, General Practitioners and staff on some of the information discovered during the work undertaken by the PHO to select a Patient Management System for use within the PHO. In Update #1 we examined Medtech Evolution and Indici PMS for their Patient Centricity, Technology platform and Future focus. In this update we are going to discuss our findings on how the two PMS work with other systems and some basic technology requirements for PMS users. Integration with Other Systems In Primary Care, Patient Management Systems interact with other systems for processes such as GP Claims and Referrals. In this paper we look at how well Indici and Evolution interact with some of the more common systems in use. The systems we considered were; • HealthOne • ERMS • GP2GP • HealthLink • SMS Messaging • Patient Dashboard • DrInfo • Xero Accounting • GP Claims • Telehealth • Patient Portals We contacted Medtech and Indici asking for details on their ability to interact with the above systems. The responses we received are tabulated in an Appendix in this paper. Results In general, and as you would expect, Medtech is currently compatible with more of the systems we investigated than Indici. Indici has no General Practice sites in the South Island yet and therefore systems such as HealthOne and ERMS are new to Indici and the integration with these systems needs to be developed. That said, it is pleasing to hear that Indici has an aggressive development program underway which has already delivered much of the required integration to systems with more key capability due by February 2019. Medtech also has a development programme to deliver more capability in 2018, such as integration with Xero and MYOB accounting software. Some points of Interest Our research uncovered some information which may be of interest to Practices. HealthOne The HealthOne system receives data from each General Practice via an integration between the Practice PMS and HealthOne. Medtech has well established integration with HealthOne for both Medtech32 and Evolution. Indici has the integration in development and expects it to be ready early in 2018. Practices must notify HealthOne of their intention to move to a new PMS if the Practice uses HealthOne. Currently, HealthOne requires 6 weeks for the data cleansing and migration processes for MedTech and Sirius, but has not completed this with Indici yet, so will need additional time for testing and process creation. Patient Portals Both PMS systems offer patient portals. Medtech allows the use of their own portal, ‘Manage My Health’ or practices can use 3rd party patient portals such as ConnectMed. Indici requires practices to use the Indici Patient Portal. Third party patient portals are not compatible with Indici at this stage. There is no indication of when that might change. Therefore, General Practices moving to Indici will need to re-register their patients on the Indici portal. GP2GP Both Medtech and Indici support transfer of patient notes via GP2GP over HealthLink. In addition, Indici enables GP2GP over HealthLink alternatives such as Medical Objects and Health Intelligent Messaging. There have been reports of practices in North Island who are on Indici having issues with HealthLink. GP Claims Halcyon, which is part of the GP Claims system, is fully integrated with MedTech Evolution and is live in a number of sites. Karo Data Management has a proof of concept with the diabetes form (one of the more complex forms) with Indici and is currently aiming for an end of February deadline for the delivery of the rest of the Nelson forms on the Indici platform. Technology Requirements In the previous paper we addressed the different ways the two PMS could be deployed; Cloud, Hosted or on Premise for Evolution or Cloud only for Indici. But, what does a user need to access the PMS? The table below gives you some brief information. Medtech Evolution Indici Device compatibility Windows only* Windows PC or laptop Apple iMac or MacBook Vendor recommended Windows 8 or Windows 10 Windows 10 operating system MacOS Required software Medtech published application Chrome web browser or installed client or Remote preferred Access software Mobile Access Evolution Mobile App (iOS or Indici Web page or Android) Indici Mobile app Mobile functionality Yet to be assessed Yet to be assessed *Evolution does not install on Apple MacOS. Mac users must use Remote access client to access Evolution. In summary, Medtech only installs on Windows PCs, Android or iOS devices. Medtech does not operate on Mac devices. In contrast, Indici is more adaptable because it only requires a web browser and does not install on your device. Patient Management Systems - Update #2 2
What is next? The analysis of the two PMS solutions is ongoing. We will be providing one or two more updates in the New Year. If you have questions about the content of this bulletin or topics you would like covered in future bulletins, please contact Gordon Munro. Note None of the information in this document should be taken as an endorsement of one PMS over another. Patient Management Systems - Update #2 3
