Briefing TechnipFMC is a global leader in subsea, onshore, offshore, and surface technologies. With installations of kilometers in size and more than 37.000 employees worldwide, it is essential to have top of the bill processes. The request How can VR be used to optimize TechnipFMC’s processes? Amongst others, areas of interest are: • sales & informing • training & simulation VR OWL 2018 4
Sales It’s difficult, time consuming and expensive to show the different solutions, services and products TechnipFMC offers. Using VR (potential) clients can be shown real locations , 3D models and simulations to gain a better insight in the activities of TechnipFMC. VR OWL 2018 6
Development TechnipFMC develops complex machinery and has sophisticated processes involving many stakeholders. Using VR during the development process can lead to better communication between stakeholders, faster progress and smoother processes. VR OWL 2018 7
Training TechnipFMC operates in a technical, complex and continuously developing industry. Training, evaluating and keeping up with new developments is key for a safe and competitive work environment . With VR stakeholders can be trained in a real environments and machinery were real live scenarios can be simulated. VR OWL 2018 8
HTC Vive What is great about the HTC Vive, is that the user is fully emersed due to the 6 degrees of freedom; rotation and movement is tracked. This makes it suitable for Interaction with the environment, objects and people. Advantages • Interactive • Immersive • Can be social Disadvantages • Difficult to scale • Immobile • Requires a high-end PC VR OWL 2018 10
Oculus Go Just on the market, these all-in-one VR goggles make mobile VR a lot more accessible. Though limited to rotation, it comes with a handy controller. It is mostly used for 360° video and less complex interactions. Advantages • Interactive • Mobile & scalable • Can be social • All-in-one Disadvantages • Less immersive • Lower quality than the Vive/Rift VR OWL 2018 11
Inspiration VR OWL 2018 12
Premier Tech - VR app In order to show Premier Tech’s complex machines at ease at fairs and on location, we made an HTC Vive app VR OWL 2018 in which the machine can be observed up close. More information 13
Heerema - VR app To show one of the biggest gas platforms of Heerema to their clients, an interactive VR application has been VR OWL 2018 created. It allows users to navigate around the platform. More information 14
Total E&P - 360° video Total E&P has multiple offshore drilling platforms. It is expensive to show clients their platforms in real life. VR OWL 2018 Therefore, we created an informative 360° video. More information 15
VR OWL 2018 16 Ideas
A VR simulation app A VR application for the HTC Vive in which the user can walk around and navigate through a (part of an) installation of TechnipFMC. This is perfect for giving employees an understanding of the installation, and to give (potential) clients an tour. VR OWL 2018 17
A VR simulation app We defined a workflow in which 3D models generated by TechnipFMC can made compatible with an VR program. Importing, optimizing and generating an VR environment can be done within one day. The user can walk through an installation gaining a better insight used for sales, training and development. Features • Use high-end headsets • Interactivity possible • Audience can watch trough PC monitor VR OWL 2018 18
Guided 360° video tours The 3D model and environment can also be captured using 360 camera viewpoint. Using this technique TechnipFMC can showcase their work in highly immersive manner. Next to this real location can be filmed using a ‘traditional’ 360 camera. Visualisatie VR Segment During a guided tour, important information could pop-up from relevant points. Voice-overs could be added. Optionally we could combine these 360° videos in one platform application. This allows users to easily grasp the magnitude of TechnipFMC and to make deliberate choices what tour to take. VR OWL 2018 19
Interactive 360° tours Users find themselves in a pre-rendered 3D environment. There are multiple spots where the user can “teleport“ to, using simple gaze interaction. Additionally, important information could be activated at relevant points. Again, multiple 360° tours could be combined in Visualisatie VR Segment one platform application. Features • User has full control what to see and where to go • Portable & accessible • Informative VR OWL 2018 20
Budget indication VR Application Creating a stand alone VR application where 3D models can be imported and shown using the HTC Vive will costs around 20k, depending on the requirements. Importing and optimizing each model will take around 6 hours, which adds to 480 euros. 360 video Developing a 360 video will range between10.000 and 15.000 euro, depending on the requirements.
