NORTH CENTRAL JERSEY ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® 2022 Installation GALA 3.17.2022 THE WESTMOUNT COUNTRY CLUB
Immediate Past President’s Message This year, you gave me the opportunity to be your spokesperson and advocate. I cannot thank you enough for your trust. My time is coming to an end, and I’d be lying if I said that I wouldn’t miss it. Leading our members is a gift that I wish each and every one of you could feel. This gift is a precious responsibility, which is exactly why we continually change the guard. NCJAR is as strong and healthy today as it has ever been. Realtor Associations want to be like us, and Realtors choose to be with us. Our organization continues to be loud and proud in everything we do; our virtual member programs, our events and services, and the work we do with the public, our governments, and our communities. We started 2021 with 12,084 members. As of today, we are at 15,000+ members. Those numbers are fantastic, but it’s what we do with our size that counts, like the strength of our committees. Let’s start with our Diversity & Cultural Affairs Committee chaired by NCJAR Affiliate, Vonetta Hawkins and Trustee Liaison, Wendy Worthy. They have been laser focused this year on fair housing and the future of equity, not only within our Association, but also within our communities. We have hosted many spectacular business webinars, hosted National Speaker Marki Lemons, and most recently held a webinar with NAR President Charlie Oppler, National Ethics Expert Matt Difanis, and National Fair Housing Expert Adrian Garcia. Our Global Business Council, chaired by Diana Bustamante and Sharon Gardner, has had global chats with the Dominican Republic, Greece, India, Belize, and China. We also participated in our 2nd Annual Global Summit in NYC and were appointed by NAR as the Global Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. The philanthropy that comes out of our Community Outreach Committee, chaired by Natalie Lentini, Dyanna Moon, Leslie Czapka, Pat Mangam, Juan Carlos Fernandez, Debra Flower, and Trustee Liaison, Mary Ellen O’Boyle is unbelievable and I am proud to witness it year after year. This year our members raised $27,000 for JBWS and $1,200 for The Valerie Fund, donated 86 cases of fresh fruit and vegetables, made 120 deliveries for local food pantries,
given more than $3,000 in school supplies to children in need and last, but certainly not least, raised $10,000 for the March of Dimes from our 31st Annual Golf Outing. A huge shout out to the Golf Outing Committee and chairs Sonya Hanson, Debra Flower, and Trustee Liaison, Judith Mizzone. Turning to RPAC, which is chaired by Carolyn Bardach, “I am proud to announce that as of today, we have raised $265,863 for RPAC.” This year, our NCJAR Scholarship Committee, chaired by Karen Casiello and Trustee Liaison, Jerry Tuscano, was able to approve five educational scholarships for our member’s families. Our YPN, chaired by Chrissy Ferreira and Alishia Taiping, continues to bring members of all ages together for fun, networking, and educational events. They hosted a business planning webinar with Jared James and co-hosted a fair housing webinar. The YPN has 100% of its members invested in RPAC and have helped our communities by conducting a beach cleanup and two Habitat for Humanity build days. YPN is not about being young, but being young at heart. Mixing our younger and mature members to teach and encourage each other is a positive and inspiring way to grow together. I would be remiss if I did not mention our trustees, our staff, our members, we would not be where we are if it weren’t for you. Thank you, it has been an honor being your President. Jairo Rodriguez, 2021 NCJAR President
2022 President’s Message Good evening fellow NCJAR members, NCJAR staff, NCJAR Trustees, NCJAR Officers and special invited guests! Thank you for joining us here tonight, as we are physically together again in person! Doesn’t this feel awesome? I want to give everyone a warm welcome and send special greetings to our Past President, Jairo Rodriquez, Mary Cano our fearless and focused CEO, our NCJAR staff, Officers, Trustees, and our 15,000+ members. Congratulations to Jairo for his accomplishments in a very difficult 2021 during the pandemic, especially on NCJAR’s Global Committee and the strides they made. I would like to acknowledge and thank my mom, Lydia Sanchez Flagg, who is the reason that I’m standing before you today. Not only did she bring me into this world, but she also brought me into the Real Estate business in 1982, and she taught me about working hard and playing hard. Also, I would like to thank my beautiful wife, Cecilia, for her understanding and unwavering support, and my family and close friends for their support. Finally, I would like to thank my special guest, Fred Underwood, the recently retired NAR VP of Diversity, for coming all the way from Virginia to support me tonight. Without Fred’s support for me in 2006, I might not be standing here tonight! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!! I am humbled, honored, grateful and excited to serve as your President this year. We are the largest Local Realtor Association in New Jersey and one of the top 11 Mega Boards Boards in the country. Since 2013, we have grown substantially with four mergers. This was not an easy feat to accomplish, as each Board has their own personality and way of doing business! Thank you to our Past Presidents who presided over these mergers. My mission and vision for NCJAR is to chart a new path to lead us forward for our long-term future. My goal is to build on the foundation laid by my predecessors by enacting some new initiatives that were discussed in our recent Strategic Planning experience. My vision is not just for this year, but for the next generation of Realtors coming into the real estate business 20 years from now. Three of my five goals for 2022, will be consistent with prior goals: To improve the Broker/Member Engagement/Involvement process, continuing to emphasize Advocacy and Protecting Property Rights, and the importance of RPAC and why we should all contribute at least our minimum $25 fair share. My top initiative for my tenure is to educate our members about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and what these words truly mean and how they apply to Realtors
and to Leadership. There is a lot of misunderstanding and confusion about these terms. This became very popular after the murder of George Floyd in 2018. These are now popular buzzwords that many companies, organizations, and leaders use when discussing their priorities, but very few of them are making an impact in this space. We are currently working with several other organizations on a Regional DEI Summit that will be held in June. For those interested in learning more about DEI, please register for this Summit. My second initiative is to build a greater NCJAR united front to deliver exceptional service for our members! Through teamwork and collaboration, which have been instrumental in my life and business, I plan to strengthen our culture by executing the recommendations that were made from our Strategic Plan. We are ONE Board and we must move forward as ONE NCJAR family! My NCJAR theme for 2022 is #ForwardTogether. In moving forward together, we have forged a relationship with our local Multi-Cultural Organizations (AREAA, NAHREP, NAREB, The Alliance). We have held preliminary meetings to discuss collaborating to heighten awareness of each organization’s mission and activities. Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming International Food Truck event, where we will celebrate our partner’s culture and cuisine together! We also have Education and Outreach included in our initiatives. We have forged a partnership with Homefirst Housing and Family Services in Union County, as well as Morris Habitat for Humanity, as my designated charities of choice this year as they are both housing related and have ties to their respective communities. It’s a natural fit to partner with them on some outreach events. I want to give Rev. Ronald Thomas, President of Homefirst and Blair Wilson, CEO of Morris Habitat a shout out and thank them for their support! I would also like to emphasize National Ownership Month in June. We always need to continue to educate our communities on the homebuying and investing process. This outreach is crucial to help reduce the gaps in Homeownership and Generational Wealth. Stay tuned for more information on our NCJAR Outreach events. Finally, in closing, I want to acknowledge that none of my initiatives or goals would have been possible without the desire for change from our fearless CEO, Mary Cano! She told me when we first started vetting Strategic Planning facilitators that she wanted something new and her exact words were “Out with the Old, and In with the New”. So NCJAR family, let’s have a blast tonight, and let’s keep moving #ForwardTogether! Peace and Blessings! William “Bill” Flagg, 2022 NCJAR President

Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC) YOUR BEST INVESTMENT IN REAL ESTATE The National Association of Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is one of the strongest advocacy organizations in the nation for one reason: we have the best members. In politics there are players and victims. Investing in RPAC makes us players. Real estate is our profession, and politics is our business. Investing in RPAC allows us to determine the quality of our future in the industry. Take a moment and imagine our industry without RPAC: * Do you have the time to read through legislation at the local, State and National levels to determine how it will impact you and your clients? * Do you have time to lobby lawmakers? * How would the elimination of the Mortgage Interest Deduction (MID) impact your ability to sell homes? * What if NAR hadn’t worked with lawmakers to push for a 100% health insurance deduction for independent contractors? * How many homebuyers would be locked out of the market without FHA single family and VA programs, as well as other Federal and State programs? EVERY INVESTMENT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. YOUR PARTICIPATION HELPS US CONTINUE THE FIGHT.
