CVCC Page 2 President’s Message President’s Message 2020 was a most unusual year for each of us individually, for our families and friends, our neighbors, our nation. The Coronavirus pandemic transformed the world, changed our lifestyle. Many of us are not venturing far from our homes and are seeing our children and grandchildren only on computer screens. There is no travel, no family celebrations, no meetings in person and no field trips. Nonetheless, CVCC has found a way to stay engaged, exchange information and pursue our passion in photography. During this time Chagrin Valley camera Club has welcomed several new members, some of them even from out of state. We enjoyed excellent presentations delivered by our own members -Skip Kremer and Graham Stead. Difficult circumstances created exciting opportunities to connect with renowned photographers from all over the world. These great speakers were sources of fresh ideas and inspiration. Our presenters delivered their lectures from California, New Jersey, Michigan and UK. Chagrin Valley Camera Club members had several outstanding meetings dedicated to different genres in photography. Our Photojournalism session was dedicated to the Coronavirus pandemic. Architectural photography of St. Theodosius Cathedral was an amazing display of styles and talent by CVCC members. Our Landscape images were critiqued by internationally renowned photographer Kah Wai-Lin. CVCC Page 3 President’s Message President’s Message A “Caught in Motion” Nature photography session followed, with a presentation by Steve Gettle. And CVCC members explored Abstract photography with Lisa Langell as well. The People’s Choice Competition, one of Chagrin Valley Camera Club’s most popular events, was a success thanks to the efforts of the Competition Chair Irv Kaplan. The CVCC Bulletin is published monthly, thanks to the continuing efforts of our editor, Teresa Gutierrez and many contributing members. I encourage you to take advantage of these new opportunities for photography, participate in club activities, contribute, share and collaborate. I wish everyone Health and Happiness in the 2021 New Year! CVCC Page 7 People’s Choice November/December, 2020 The Making of a Competition We asked voters to submit their two favorite photos. We counted all votes and selected first, second and third place by vote totals. We had 34 entrants with 66 photos displayed online. 1st ~ Marina Neyman’s ‘Sandhill Crane’ is the winner with 10 votes. 2nd ~ Ken Weiss was second with 8 votes for ‘Bow Lake’. 3rd ~ Morris Burke was third with 7 votes for ‘Days of Yore’. Congratulations to all!! We had a very interesting distribution of votes with Errol Bellon 37 photos ~ Crested receiving at leastButte, Colorado one vote. 19 photos with 1 vote 5 photos with 2 votes 5 photos with 3 votes 3 photos with 4 votes 2 photos with 5 votes I think this reflects the wide breadth of photographic interests that CVCC enjoys. People judge photos on composition, subject, creativity, and digital darkroom skill along with many other criteria. I hope we continue to attract this wide range of interests. CVCC Page 35 Tuesday evening program January 19, 2021 Tuesday. January 19, 7PM 8:30pm, ZOOM Virtual meeting “Lightroom in a Different Light” For years now people have taken my Lightroom™ classes to learn the basics of Lightroom™, my sorting and selection process and more advanced techniques for editing. But many have felt that they wanted more. They wanted a glimpse into my style of editing, the thoughts behind why I chose to move that slider or how to view that image in a different light. The concepts behind a distinct directive editing choice and just trying different things until they got something. So, I developed this online class with that in mind. To do this, I will be asking attendees to submit images of their making, and I will be choosing images from your submissions to develop live in the class. You will be able to follow along in the process that I do with every image, ask questions and see what I would do to enhance and sometimes transmogrify the image into something you may never have thought about. Submitting images: By January 12th, send 1 raw format file to Marina marinaneymanphoto@gmail.com. Each file must be named as follows: Lastname.Firstname_Title.ext (use the extension for your camera Files not named properly will not be accepted. CVCC Page 36 Tuesday evening program January 19, 2021 About Doug Doug has been shooting professionally and with distinction for over 40 years. His creative ap- proach to photography, coupled with his ability to see and capture light, permeates his im- pressive body of work. His work has been on display in galleries in New York City, Washing- ton DC Smithsonian, Buffalo, PA and Toronto, including the world-famous Ontario Art Gallery. And can also be seen in dozens of magazines and throughout the web on commercial sites. (Add links here) He has received numerous national and international awards including the Kodak award for image excellence. Through his constant search for the very best technology, new techniques and tools, evolving styles, and an idealistic view of the world, Doug has become a sought- after educator. Photographers look to him to expand their knowledge, increase their sense of light, create that which the camera is incapable of perceiving, and explore the world as an artist. Doug has taught at professional photography seminars throughout the United States and Canada. He teaches classes in Adobe® Photoshop® and Lightroom®, post production applications, high dynamic range, painter, and studio portraiture. In exploring Doug’s work, you will surely see—and feel—the emotion and passion that he captures in every image. He often says that if an image does not exude passion and does not evoke a sense of delight, sorrow, sadness, happiness, or desire, the image lacks the ability to be a sustainable work of art. 2020 - 2021 http://chagrinvalleycameraclub.com/ January 2021
CVCC Bulletin Page 37 New Members Welcome to our new members who we present with a sample of their photographic interests. Margaret Konecky , Beachwood Harry Silver~ a composite of birds at the feeder Bubbles Sunset in Beachwood From Margaret: I live in Beachwood and love macrophotography, reflections, and anything that catches my eye. Bubbles was a shot of bubbles left in a bowl overnight in the kitchen sink with a sink liner that caused the black lines. Sunset in Beachwood was taken last week when I looked out the front door and saw an orange sunset. I just ran out and shot the photo with my cellphone before the sun disappeared.
