LION TORQUE Club Treasurer Ray Hudson advised me recently that the club membership is Hi everyone, welcome to a new year of club activities. I do not wish to now 53 members, this is great news. The first time in many years that the dwell much on the Covid-19, except in that I didn’t think 2021 would be number has exceeded the 50 mark. I am sure Bruce Turner, the club founder much different to last year. We can only hope the vaccine works the will be smiling when he reads this news. Bruce is still a club member world over. On a positive note though the future for our club is looking although he has been residing in Victoria for several years now. very sound as we near celebrating our 38th year in April. Our first social event for this year, The Dave Roberts brunch planned for This month I would like to welcome several new members into the club Sunday 7th February had to be postponed until another date due to the Covid & look forward to meeting those of you that I have not met as yet. -19 lock down regulations. Social event planned for October we have decided to hold the event then. It will depart from the Classic Cars & Coffee display at the UWA venue for a drive through the hills. I have been speaking to Ben from the Mistelle French Restaurant & Hainault Vineyard in Bickley as a possible place to finish the drive. There is much to discuss about Lunch menu & prices, if we decide to visit the restaurant. Ben contacted President Neville Grimson recently inviting our club to visit the restaurant on one of our social events. We will have to find out if any on the drive would be interested in dining at the restaurant or just visit the winery. A three course lunch in the restaurant will cost around $65.00 per person. I will advise the other French car clubs about the Drive Day & change of date very soon. * Pg 5
Cont. The annual Classic Car Show will be held on Sunday 18th April this year. Tom Pitt has asked the organizers to allocate us space for 10 vehicles. I feel that we could have this number of vehicles on display this year. Please keep this date in mind. After several years off the social events calendar the Fuel Economy Run is planned to go ahead this year. There is enough renewed interest from the club members to run the event in conjunction with the weekend away. I am advising club members well in advance so you can think about joining in on this popular weekend. The Economy Run will commence on the outskirts of Perth so as not to be frustrating impatient motorists by driving at an economical speed. The days of city run economy runs are well gone. Because of the good numbers attending the Weekend Away it makes it worthwhile to combine the Fuel Economy Run together. The date planned for the Weekend Away and Economy Run is Sat 21st & Sunday 22nd August. Tom & Tona Pitt took part in the Veteran Car Club of Western Australia (Busselton Branch) Australia Day Rally held in Busselton over the Australia Day long weekend. Tom & Tona entered their 1974 504 sedan along with 70 other entries, the oldest being a 1907 Rover. They enjoyed a few days holiday in Busselton after the rally & were invited to visit John & Trish Brockman on their farm at Nannup. Former farmers themselves, Tom & Tona spent an enjoyable day there with plenty to chat about farming with John & Trish. Tom was also eager to spend some time in the Peugeot spare Parts shed during the visit. Until Next Month Drive Safe & Enjoy It Kerry Torpy. * Pg 6
