‘Ad Vitam Paramus’ ‘We are Preparing for Life’. Supportive Follow us on Twitter @westcravenhigh Friday 15 January 2021 We can be followed @WestCravenHighSchool “You are braver than you believe, strong than you seem, smarter than you think and loved more than you know.” - Winnie the Pooh - Key Messages I hope that this E-bulletin finds you and your family well. I hope that our newly introduced offer of Live Lessons has improved your child’s remote learning experience. It complements the work set on ClassCharts and is intended to help them feel more connected to school than in the previous lockdown. We are putting considerable effort into making sure that their teaching is aligned, as closely as possible, to the curriculum they would receive if back in school. I am becoming increasingly concerned about excessive screen time and lessons will now finish 5 minutes early to give both staff and students a quick break to have a walk around or a stretch away from the screen before the next lessons begins. All lessons will continue to start at the same time and students must log in promptly so as not to miss any learning. West Craven has been hit hard with the pandemic this week with several staff testing positive for COVID 19. We need to close the school temporarily to vulnerable students and children of key workers until Wednesday 20 January. This will allow a deep clean. I wish all our staff a speedy recovery and look forward to a return to a full schedule of live lessons soon. If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, you will receive vouchers with effect from next week. The food parcels from our school kitchen were only intended as an interim measure to support families whilst the Government’s national scheme was being set up. I believe vouchers are the best option for families entitled to Free School Meals to access good food quickly. As mentioned last week, we look forward to hosting a ‘Virtual Meet your Form Tutor’ evening on Wednesday 27 January. This will be an opportunity for you and your child to catch up with their form tutor to discuss how they are engaging with their school work and to seek advice, guidance and support. We will be opening our online booking system shortly so watch out for details and save the date in your diary. I want to end by expressing my gratitude to everyone who has sent in messages of thanks and support this week as these are hugely appreciated by our staff. They make such a difference. Please stay safe and follow all Government guidance. Get in touch if I can help or support in any way. Mrs Tracy Foy Principal

School Meals We are proud of our catering team in school who have produced some excellent nutritious food parcels with accompanying menus, for our children entitled to free school meals. All the schools in our Pendle Education Trust family will ensure that our children entitled to Free School Meals receive vouchers with effect from next week. Families entitled to the vouchers will receive an update as to how they will be issued as soon as the systems have been established. Covid Kindness publication During the first lockdown, key worker children who attended our Hub took part in a Zoom call with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This call has been featured in a new book, 'Covid Kindness' which celebrates hard work, adaptability and kindness during the Covid-19 pandemic.
