Who we are: North Shore United Methodist Church is an inclusive community of faith
in Jesus Christ guided by the Holy Spirit. We are committed to providing support, heal-
ing, and inspiration to all. Our missions encompass worship, service, the arts, educa-
tion, and fellowship. We participate in interfaith activities that serve to further world
understanding and peace. We believe in the power of prayer and strive to be of help to
our members, our community and those in need.

Our guiding values: Love. Serve. Renew.

A Reconciling Congregation: NSUMC is a welcoming community of all, including the
LGBTQ community. If you identify as LGBTQ, you will find our congregation to be a
safe and nonjudgmental space for you and those dear to you. We have been a part of the
United Methodist Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN) since 2015.

Newcomers, please fill out the Visitor Card in the pew rack and place in the offering
plate later in the service. We wish to get to know you and send you information on
church activities!

Children are welcome! If you have young children (infants to 3 years old), you are wel-
come to have them remain with you during the service. We also have a “children’s cor-
ner” in the rear of the narthex with puzzles, mazes and Lego blocks. Your child may al-
so be interested in using our activity bags which have books, coloring pages, and cray-
ons. These can be found in the blue bin by the “children’s corner” The older children are
invited to leave for Sunday school following “The Time with Young Christians.”

Fellowship time takes place after worship. Snacks and beverages are served in the nar-
thex or upstairs on Adult Forum Sundays.

Individual listening devices for improved sound are available in the narthex.

changing cultural landscape. Church ministry in the future will not be like church
ministry in the past. Tod Bolsinger gives us a guidebook to help lead our congrega-
tions into this new landscape.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

OFFERING
We have good news to share with all who feel forsaken and alone. We have gifts to
share with those whose resources are depleted. In those times and places where we
cannot give ourselves, we offer our gifts, that others may carry forward and extend
our ministry. Let us give in gratitude to God and in response to our neighbors’
need.

    DOXOLOGY UMH #95
     † PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Accept our gifts, O God, because we need to give. Use our gifts to the
greatest good they can accomplish here in our midst and far beyond our
individual reach. We present them in thanksgiving for all you have
given us and in gratitude for the privilege of sharing in your work.
     Amen.

† CLOSING HYMN “Forward Through the Ages” UMH #555

† RESPONSIVE BENEDICTION
As Jesus sent the disciples out into the countryside to preach and to heal, so Christ
sends us out to speak words of hope and to heal human hurts today.

We accept this mission to be God’s people in the world.

Go on your way, rejoicing in the presence of God’s Spirit, and in the power of the
gospel of love and hope.

For yours is the glory, O God, now and forever! Amen! Ruth C. Duck

                                        NOTES

                                           6
Luke 4: 14-30
14
Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report
about him spread through all the surrounding country. 15 He began to teach in their
synagogues and was praised by everyone.
16
When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the syna-
gogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of
the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where
it was written:

     18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
        because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
     19
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

20
And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of
all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 Then he began to say to them, “Today this
scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 All spoke well of him and were
amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, “Is not this Jo-
seph’s son?” 23 He said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb,
‘Doctor, cure yourself!’ And you will say, ‘Do here also in your hometown the things
that we have heard you did at Capernaum.’” 24 And he said, “Truly I tell you, no
prophet is accepted in the prophet’s hometown. 25 But the truth is, there were many
widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and
six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; 26 yet Elijah was sent to
none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. 27 There were also many lep-
ers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except
Naaman the Syrian.” 28 When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with
rage. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on
which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff. 30 But he passed
through the midst of them and went on his way.
