PATH OF WORSHIP Prepare your hearts and minds to meet the Triune God through this service as he comes to you in His Word. P: In the name of our God, to whom all hearts are open and from whom no secrets are hidden. Amen. C: Almighty God, merciful Father, I, a troubled and repentant sinner, confess that I have sinned against you in my thoughts, my words, and my actions. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved others as I should. I am distressed by the sins that trouble me and am deeply sorry for them. Silence for Personal Confession P: Jesus says to his people: “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven.” His death paid for the guilt of your sins and the sins of the whole world. Do you believe this? C: Yes, I believe. P: Because of the promise of our Savior Jesus, I forgive you all your sins. Be assured that you are a dear child of God and an heir of eternal life. C: O Lord, my God, I called to you for help, and you answered me. I thank you for the love you have shown me in Jesus Christ, my Savior. Through him you have rescued me from the guilt of my sin and given me the peace of forgiveness. Help me fight against temptation, correct whatever wrongs I can, and serve you and those around me with love and good works. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. P: Go in peace. The Lord be with you. 3
Hymn 95 “How Good, Lord, to Be Here” 4
The Lesson 2 Kings 2:1-12a NIV 84 1 When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. 2 Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel. 3 The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, "Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?" "Yes, I know," Elisha replied, "but do not speak of it." 4 Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here, Elisha; the Lord has sent me to Jericho." And he replied, "As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went to Jericho. 5 The company of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, "Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?" "Yes, I know," he replied, "but do not speak of it." 6 Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here; the Lord has sent me to the Jordan." And he replied, "As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So the two of them walked on. 7 Fifty men of the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground. 9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?" "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied. 10 "You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours--otherwise not." 11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to you, O God. 5
The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell, The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit. the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn of the Day 712 “Jesus, Take Us to the Mountain” 6
The Sermon Mark 9:2-9 NIV 84 Pastor Kevin Klug Sermon Theme: See the Savior’s Glorious Love 2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.) 7 Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!" 8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 7

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. The Blessing P: Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness. Happy Birthday Clayton Coffey (14), David Radford (16) Happy Anniversary John & Deb Croissant (16), Dan & Dawn Webster (17) NEW Sermon Series: Unmasking Sin for Lent Lent is a time to prepare our hearts for Jesus' death; a time to reflect on our sins that caused Jesus' death and to repent so that we might enjoy the forgiveness Jesus won for us. However, sin likes to mask itself so we don't even see it. We underestimate its power in our lives and so fail to confess it and see our need for Jesus' help with it. • February 21 - Predator: Genesis 4:3-15 • February 28 - Self-Deceit: 1 Samuel 15:12-23 • March 7 - Mission Sunday (Guest Pastor Matt Vogt) • March 14 - Leprosy: 2 Kings 5:1-17 • March 21 - Yeast: Mark 8:11-17 • March 28 - Misplaced Trust: Jeremiah 17:1-15 AV Team Needs Your Help Would you be willing to help serve those worshipping online? You don't need to be an expert in audio-visuals to serve. We will train you in what we do. We'd like to train 5 more people. That would be a great help with Midweek Lenten services coming on February 17. Contact our AV Coordinator, Kyle Marti at (262) 527-5705 to volunteer or to ask any questions. Thank you for using your gifts to keep our ministry for Jesus moving forward in 2021! 11
