We started 2021 the same way we ended 2020 at Gateway Rescue Mission; by feeding hungry people every day. Our meals are simple, tasty, and they stick to your ribs. A trip through our kitchens most mornings will tempt you to go ahead and eat lunch at 8:00 a.m. because it sure smells good. We’ve also got some characters in our kitchen crew. Take for example, Sean pictured here with Huey. That’s Sean on the right giving the thumbs up. One morning while strolling through the kitchen with the camera, Sean spotted his chance and said “take my picture! I’m going to be in the newsletter!!” So, here’s to you Sean, and to everyone else who makes feeding the folks possible at Gateway Rescue Mission. And in the category of “things you always wanted to know about Gateway but were afraid to ask,” here’s a bit of kitchen trivia. We cook our meals a day in advance. Monday’s spaghetti is cooked on Sunday. We put the prepared food in our cooler overnight, let those seasoned juices work in real well, then reheat it for mealtime the next day. Works like a charm.
