2 The new structure As the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Woodworking and Wood Processing Machinery, Plant and Equipment, LIGNA 2017 has been refined and improved for both exhibitors and trade visitors. The changes allow customers to make better use of their time at the show, while the needs of exhibitors are fully and precisely met. In particular, the merging of the three previous show categories “Solid Wood Working”, “Furniture Industry” and “Woodcraft Solutions” into the one display section “Tools and Machinery for Custom and Mass Production” makes for a more compact and clearly organized presentation. This saves visitors time and energy. New developments, new technologies, new topic areas Why were these changes and adjustments necessary? Technologies today are no longer tied to businesses of a certain size. The new layout reflects this by putting like with like. So, for example, the overlap between Surface Technology and Wood Based Panel Production is made clearer by siting the two sets of exhibits closer together. Likewise the two sections Energy from Wood and Wood Based Panel Production are also placed close together for 2017. Where possible, exhibitors of technology for solid wood working are placed in Hall 27, which puts them near the displays of sawmill technology on the one hand, and timber construction on the other. Exhibitors of machine components and automation technology have their own dedicated section of the show, centrally located in Hall 16.
