Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Jude the Apostle Parish Conference 9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70810 (225) 317-0929; SvdpStJudeBR@gmail.com; (225) 766-2431; www.stjudecatholic.org Thank You and update from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Jude Parish Conference October 2018 – September 2019 Many thanks and blessings to the St. Jude Parish for supporting and praying for the members of the Saint Jude the Apostle Parish Conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul as we provide a hand up to the poor in our parish community. We have submitted our Annual Conference Report for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019 to the Par- ish Office and the St. Vincent de Paul Diocesan Council. During the year, 74 active, associate and contrib- uting Vincentians visited with 578 families and prisoners consisting of 1,841 individuals to provide finan- cial, nutritional and spiritual assistance. We serve an average of 15 neighbors weekly on Monday nights to pay part of their utilities or rent and provide a box of food. Twice a month on Mondays at 6pm we have prayer, reflection and review of business practices. We also provided 157 food boxes and frozen turkeys during Thanksgiving and Christmas with 133 toys. Your donations of $62,819.75 throughout the year and from Souper Bowl of Caring, along with the St. Jude School’s food and toy drives, allowed us to provide the above services to our neighbors in need throughout the year. The conference also provided $4,800.00 to St. Vincent de Paul Special Works, which is the Shel- ter, Pharmacy and Dining Hall, to assist others throughout the Diocese. The conference contributed $2,617.45 to the Diocesan Council and $800.00 for our twinning partner in India. Our operating expenses were $755.94 for telephone, stamps and supplies. The St. Jude Conference members, without using the above funds, prepared and served dinner four times at the Bishop Ott and Sweet Dreams homeless shelters for approximately 210 people. A small group of Vin- centians continue to weekly pick up bread, pastries and food from various retailers for the St. Vincent de Paul kitchen. Vincentians also serve on prison ministry teams to provide monthly communion at Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola and Hunt Regional Corrections Center in St. Gabriel. Recognizing a need for long term skills building, we initiated the Jobs For Life ministry in partnership with St. John’s United Meth- odist Church and the Gardere Initiative. In the same spirit, St. John’s United Methodist Church brought Fi- nancial Peace University to the community. Both are designed to break the cycle of generational poverty. Please join us in these new ministries. Please consider becoming a member of the St. Jude Conference.
