NORES Supporting Catholic Education and Formation Diocesan HEAD TEACHERS Conference 28 February – 1 March 2019 “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning” PROVERBS 9:9
Aims of the Headteacher Conference: • Personal spiritual input • Time for personal reflection • The practical application of strong spiritual leadership in schools • Networking and mutual support This is a rare opportunity to take time for yourself.
Lift Your Gaze and See Anew "I raise my eyes toward the mountains. From whence shall come my help? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121, 1-2. Psalm 121 is one of fifteen psalms known as Songs of Ascents. They are thought to be songs of pilgrims in the final approach to Jerusalem in the heights of Judea. The collection is infused with trust, hope and longing. They recall dangers faced and salvation marvellously wrought. 'Lift up your eyes' is a saving message for a careworn people whose eyes have become downcast or focused on present worries. In Isaiah 60, it is a joyous command to returning exiles to witness a salvation dawning about them. So much in our days as educators and leaders works to exile us from the peace of God's presence, the God who is ever watchful, who 'guards your comings and goings'. From time to time, we need to 'lift up our eyes', put aside what preoccupies us and make that ascent in spirit to God who waits to renew and strengthen our hearts for that pilgrim journey we're all called to walk. This year’s Head Teachers Conference looks at the theme of lifting your gaze to see anew and explores both leadership within Papal teachings and strengthening leadership through transforming culture and modelling spiritual leadership. We have put together a varied programme of speakers for you and we hope you will find them both thought provoking and informative.
